"Local Tunes at The Copper Door"

Local tunes at The Copper Door

If you have ever been to The Copper Door you know very well that it speaks for itself. The low yellow lighting and natural wood decor sets the perfect ambiance for mellow live acoustic sets. Last night this hip spot in Santa Ana hosted a must see line up of Orange County’s musical talent. Starting out the evening was Cherokee Fade a folky story time telling duo that came on the scene this fall. They played a twelve song set of original music and rounded out the evening with a well chosen cover song from A.A Bondy. Holly Pulliam followed the duo on stage blowing everyone away with her incredible and honest voice. Later in the evening Tully Wilkinson took the stage, and Skee closed the night with a Johnny Cash mash-up. If you missed last night be sure to check out Cherokee Fade at The Kings Inn at Memphis Cafe on January 10th with The Summer Twins.

Local duo Cherokee Fade made their debut performance at the coffee house, the duo made up of locals Erin Belair and Kevin Yoches, is a newly formed, yet an infinitely talented collaboration of two passionate and talented individuals. When asking the two how they started they explained, "It was always just for fun, Kevin would write the music and I (Erin) would write the lyrics." Well guys it's that easy, the two performed their own songs titled Red Book, Over and Over Again, Withcraft, and they closed the evening with one titled Leaving.

Their self titled album will be surfacing within the next few month, stay tuned for more information and more shows from the new local duo Cherokee Fade.

Cherokee Fade was followed by a live acoutisce performance by Old Scratch. Kevin Yoches of Cherokee Fade is also part of the duo Old Scratch with Jordan Buckelew. The two have become quite the team after making a name for themselves with no more than 4 months in the local music scene. After Cherokee Fade's performance Yoches hopped back up, switched instruments, and began to perform with Old Scratch. It was their first acoustic performances and by the looks of the audience they did an incredible job. All in all Saturday night at Alta was an amazing night filled with acoustic sounds, good friends and chai tea lattes.

Bio

Erin Rose is a banshee who writes rhymes on cocktail napkins while laying down whiskey for a living. She met and fell for Kevin Elliot who long before her had decided to dedicate his life’s blood to music. Years went by. Cherokee Fade is their love child and can be credited with re-uniting the love that had been lost over time, or misplaced, and given away. Their music is simple and truthful, lyrically driven, and gives a nod back to the days when songs really had something to say to you. Waking Up Is Hard To Do, their debut album was released in November of 2011. “The album was created in a strange space, a lot of secrets had accumulated over the years, and there was a lot to dig through, it led to a lot of truth and I think people have been where we have been,” said Erin Rose about the whole process. Cherokee Fade spent the year that followed continuing to write new music and playing venues across southern California. They recently completed a successful fall tour through Canada and the Pacific Northwest promoting the winter release of their upcoming record. Growing up on a steady diet of Patsy Cline, Fleetwood Mac, and Paul Simon she attributes much of her style and the groundwork of this project to their inspiration. “We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel here,” said Kevin about the simplicity of Cherokee Fade, he continued, “I may be the body, I would have always made music, but she’s the heartbeat.” Together they have managed to create a sound that is distinctly their own and yet remarkably timeless. It’s the kind of music that makes you want to pull up chair, pour yourself a drink, and have a real good listen.

A “Cherokee Fade,” is when for whatever reason or vice you may have, you take leave of your current situation or place without informing anyone of your decision or whereabouts.
