Cheryl Casselman Singer, Award Winning Songwriter, Recording Artist. Cheryl has won Ontario Independent Music Award 2007 for her song The Imminent Goodbye and on October 16th 2008, performed at the Phoenix in Toronto after winning her second consecutive win at the Independent Music Awards!

Biography

Cheryl Casselman won Ontario Independent Music Award for best Country song, two years in a row! Cheryl has a unique style with so much artistic sense she is considered an artist first and foremost. She writes her songs around the feeling of the song, she said basing the lyrics around the feeling, gives her songs more heart. Cheryl grew up listening to other artists such as Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Emmy-lou Harris. She remembers singing from an early age and unleashed her potential on fellow family members often singing her brothers to sleep. Cheryl's determination sets her apart, and she certainly has the grit and the gusto to become a success in this crazy business, and getting her music to her fans is something she really believes in. "There is a reason this gift was given to me, my songs have meaning and if one person finds comfort, it was a gift worth sharing!"
As we listen to Cheryl's music we know what a rare gift it is. She has often been likened to a female Neil Young, but likes to think her artistic ability is a natural thing. " I don't try to sound like any one or write like anyone or even try to be different for that matter, I just let the music and the song flow as it determines itself"
Cheryl has most recently recieved recognition for her work, November 15th, 2007 winning Ontario Independent Music Award for her song The Imminent Goodbye....and performed at the Phoenix in Toronto for her second consecutive win, October 16, 2008 for her song off the same album "Any Road North"
Cheryl's music is on radio in Italy, Germany, US and Canada. She has most recently been added to CBC's library and is enjoying airplay there!

The Train

The Train
Written by Cheryl Casselman

I know that you love me
Cause I love you too
And we've tried to stay together
Can't tell you what we've been through
I don't know now which is worse
The hunger or the thirst
All I know is we keep coming up empty
Every time we fill the purse

And it just keeps getting harder
And when I hear that whistle blowin
I just want to get on out of here
I just want to ride ride ride
I just want to get on out of here
I just want to ride on out of here

And I know that you love me
Cause I love you too
And we've had our share of problems
So this aint' nothing new
But I don't know now
Which to blame the smoke or the flame
All I know is I bin waiting forever
For this wind to change

And when I hear that whistle blowing
I just want to get on out of here
I just want to ride ride ride
I just want to get on outa here
I just want to ride on outa here

Leaving is The Only Way Home

Leaving is the Only Way Home
Written by Cheryl Casselman

Looks like plaster, or fallin rain,
will you be coming back this way again?
I only want to know, so, I can tell my friends,
There's never much to say when you're driving down dead ends.

And I found leaving, is the only way home.

You don't have to say, what is on your mind,
it's, written on your face and I can see it in your eyes.
How my heart breaks, I turn my collar to the cold.
You will still be, the same person when you're old.

And I found leaving, is the only way home.

How I'd like to stay here with you,
but the winds of change are, comin soon.
When you're dreamin, of far away lands,
remember that I once, held your hand.

And I found leaving, is the only way home.

No I won't look back, after, we say all our goodbyes,
and this train rolls down the track
and all my tears have dried.

So if leaving is learning, I will greet another day
As these pages I'm turning will help me find my way.

And I found leaving, is the only way home.

Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In
Written by Cheryl Casselman

She used to like to study Psychology.
She used to quote Freud in her sleep.
She avoided the world from her basement,
and considered herself pretty deep.

Well her doctor prescribed some medication,
but a friend said, you still gotta learn to cope.
So she flushed it all down the toilet,
what can't be swallowed, can't get stuck in your throat.

You know I've always felt a bit different
and I really hoped that I'd fit in
Sometimes I wonder where my place is,
I'm always outside looking in.

No Miracles Today

No Miracles Today
Written by Cheryl Casselman

This, time that I pray,
I'm not asking for anything at all.
This, time that I pray
I'm not asking for Miracles today.

Here I am, I'm yours, just a use me as you will,
no more wasted days spent stuggling up hill,
no more wasted days spent struggling up hill.

This, time that I pray,a
I'm not asking for ganything at all.
This, time that I pray,
I'm not asking for Miracles today.

I'll get down on my knees and I will bow my head so low,
and I will open my heart and see with my eyes closed,
I will open my heart and see with my eyes closed.

This, time that I pray,
I'm not asking for anything at all.a
This, time that I pray,
I'm not asking for Miracles today.
No, I'm not asking for Miracles today.

any road north

Any Road North
written by Cheryl Casselman

Some days I wanna run and hide
oh life just don't seem fair
I wanna leave it all behind
yes I'm gone without a care

I'll take any road any road north

How I get there don't really matter much,
I could take a train or I could take a bus,
but I'll take any road any road north

Some things are too damned hard to forget,
some things are hard to live with too,
who are you to be the judge of me?
and who am I to be the judge of you?
I'll take any road any road north

how I get there don't really matter much
I could take a train or I could take a bus,
but I'll take any road any road north

there's a river flowin somewhere, that will ease my mind,
there's gotta be a little more to take the edge off than this wine,
I'll take any road any road north

No More

No More
Written by Cheryl Casselman

No More, looking over, my shoulder,
for the rain to come
We're a little older, the fires just a smolder, and it's getting colder..
wont you come on in, won't you come on in.

No Nothing can stop you now, not the rain the wind the storm, no nothing, can stop you now.

No More, thinking maybe, or what could have been, for the phone to ring,
We're a little wiser, there's no one but us here, come and take my hand dear,
won't you come on in, won't you come on in

No Nothing can stop you now not the rain the wind the storm no nothing, can stop you now.

No More second guessing, betraying what's in my heart,
I've done alot of growing, wisdom comes from knowing, finally it's showing
won't you come on in, wont' you come on in.

No nothing can stop you now, not the rain the wind the storm no nothing can stop you now

Unbreakable Spirit

Written By: Cheryl Casselman

I can see it in your eyes that you're worried,
oh and every single touch I feel your love,
I hate to see you hurting so much darling, from the things in life that have affected.

Well if it's any consolation to you honey,
it's your love that's been keeping me strong,
but you don't have to worry so much darlin..
it's not even in the plans to give up.

I've got an unbreakable spirit, nothing can keep me down, I've got and unbreakable spirit and a will to go on and if I finish last I'm still the winner, cause I made every step count... I've got an unbreakable spirit, that keeps me hanging on.

Life for me you know has become a challenge,
every single day is a new day,
and if you ask me why I'm smilin here's your answer,
I can say that I'm still here and I'm ok

I've got an unbreakable spirit. Nothing can keep me down, I've got an unbreakable spirit and a will to go on and if I finish last I'm still the winner, cause I made every step count, I've got an unbreakable spirit, that keeps me hanging on.
