Che Merk ( ‘Che Collins ) – Rap Artist/Music Engineer.

Born and raised in PG County, Maryland, Che Merk fell in love with music at a young age. His parents owned countless records he would listen to. There was never a moment where he wasn’t vibing to a tape or CD. It was in the Thurgood Marshall Middle School Band that Merk tried his hand at creating music. Percussion was his focus, but the music in general captivated Che. Growing up, Merk’s main musical interest was rap. The lyrics weren’t what entertained Che, but the instrumentals. He became more and more interested into producing tracks. With so many friends who rapped, Che decided to get his own production studio. It was then that he started working on his craft of beat making and engineering.

Although Che never intended to pursue a career in rapping, he would still write and record songs with his friends. It wasn’t long before the idea of being a rap artist became a serious pursuit. In January 2009, Che created his own indie label named Bass Records that included him and several friends. As time passed – the original artists’ passions diminished. Che, however, could feel his increase.

Merk pushed himself as an artist. He shifted his concentration from producing to rapping and engineering. For revenue, Che began to charge for sessions at his studio to engineer for various clients in the DMV area. It was one of those clients who referred Che to another studio in NW DC. When they heard Che’s work – they hired him to engineer on the spot. Seeing Che’s drive and passion, the owner helped Merk to put out his first Mixtape, Bass the Movement Vol 1.

Bass the Movement didn’t create much buzz, but it drove Che to perfect his craft behind the mic. He released two more mixtapes: The Homecoming in October 2011 and Anything Goes in May 2012. Merk’s work ethic was quickly recognized and earned him the title of “ The Hardest Working Man in the DMV. “ His first break came from the single “ Bounce, “ off of his Mixtape, Anything Goes. Bounce’s video release received 30k views the first day and now has over 100k views on YouTube.

Known as the PG County General, Che Merk is a strong advocate for his area. He takes every opportunity to place shine on his area – an area where a rap artist has yet to make it big. Being the hard-working man Che is, it is only a matter of time before he succeeds in putting PG on the map.

Since his last release in 2012, Che has been building buzz doing features with other DMV artists and promoting his latest project, “Wild Life.” Wild Life will be an audio depiction of the life that surrounds Che Merk. The project not only showcases Che’s rap talent, but it let’s the people get to know him as a person.
