Chey Acuna

Chey Acuna injects her personal brand of alternative rock with unique style. Her provocative lyrics and low, sensual voice give her material a drive and sensitivity rare in much of today’s music. Dark tonalities, interwoven melodies and spatial arrangements provide the backdrop for the descriptive lyrics of the songs.

Chey’s latest release “Moment of Darkness,” features goth-tinged vocals, tribal drums, ethereal keyboards, and edgy guitar. She co-produced the CD with veteran backup vocalist Rosemary Butler (Jackson Browne, James Taylor). One of the songs was featured in the opening movie trailer for the 2003 Dances With Films independent film festival, screening before an audience of over 7,000 people.

Chey was recently honored to be part of the 100-voice choir on Neil Young's "Living With War" CD.
Other musicians she has worked with include Jeff Scott Soto (Soul Sirkus), Scott Warren (Warrant), Brie Howard (Robert Palmer), and Larry Antonino (Tom Hank’s film “That Thing You Do!”

Chey’s songwriting skills have been recognized by an Honorable Mention in the Billboard Song Contest, and a Fourth Place and four Honorable Mentions in the American Song Festival. Her formidable talents and presence on the local club scene have been acknowledge in articles in several Los Angeles trade publications including The LA Weekly and The Music Connection, who wrote, “Vocalist Chey Acuna knocks out each song with artistic abandon,” and “Chey is possessed with voice that cuts through the track like a knife.”

In addition to songwriting and recording, Chey has been actively involved in filmmaking, incorporating the strong visual imagery of her lyrics to the screen. She produced and directed the music video to her song “Hologram” which premiered on MTV and received airplay in Washington state, Boston and in New York as part of the New Music Seminar. “Hologram” was also included in the music video compilation program Underground USA which into distribution in Europe and overseas in 39 countries.
