Bio

As an independent act, I'm always trying new avenues to keep working as a singer & songwriter. I have a website but for those who have no more time then here's the lowdown!
I'm a Ireland-based songwriter, originally from Australia. I spent invaluable time working & playing in the Sydney music scene. The need to write got me travelling and I've been in Ireland for 7 years now. My band, The Rose Ponies, was originally started in 2001. Constant gigging, co-writing with band members and collaborating with other artists all led up to the 2006 release of 'Night Time' - "The languid tenor of Chiara Browne's solo debut underscores her antipodean provenance and marks her out as a Dublin-based singer-songwriter with enough quirkiness to set her apart" - that's a quote from Siobhan Long's review of the album in The Irish Times, July 06. My influences for this album have been all the listening and toiling over songs from people like Ray Charles & Bonnie Raitt to classical and contemporary composers, particulary soundtracks. Dr. John & Nina Simone always inspire me to mix it up with groove and melodies, even though I write in a pop form, they all catch up with me when I get a new song right.
I have also written music for theatre. About Face Theatre Company, based in Dublin, commissioned me to write for two of their productions in the past two years. That I love and hopefully it will be something I do more often in the future. I'm also a harmony singer & my new album is testimony to that. You can never get enough great harmonies to elevate a song, both live & in the studio.
My goal is to keep on evolving and challenging myself in every aspect of what I do. That is the test - to just keep on going. That and mastering the piano! In the words of the late great Ray Charles " If you can sing what's in your heart & keep time. That's it.
