"Cover Story Named Best Band in Contest Finals"

In a gala awards ceremony on March 22, 2009, local Chicago favorite COVER STORY was named the Best R & B Band in the Chicago suburbs.
COVER STORY was judged the best in the category of Rhythm and Blues Band. The group features favorites from Motown and more, including award-winning music by the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, the Foundations, the O’Jays, as well as others. The band is also recognized for its wide variety of material and top-notch vocals, with hits from Alana Myles (Black Velvet) to Zeppelin (Misty Mountain Hop.) Their diverse repertoire includes classic rock, Motown, country, disco – and even Sinatra standards when requested.
The award was presented by Suburban NiteLife magazine and the NiteLife.org website. The media outlet’s “Best of the ‘Burbs” competition collected in excess of a record 6-million votes from more than 34,000 readers who nominated over 5,400 entries in the areas of music, night spots, restaurants, and media in the Chicagoland area.
COVER STORY is: Lucy Mihalik on vocals and acoustic guitar, Jerry G on keyboards and vocals, Tom DeMichael on guitar and vocals, and Doug Sylvester on drums and vocals. The band performs at Chicagoland’s top clubs, as well as private parties, benefits, weddings, and festivals.

"Cover Story Lands Top Spots in Contest Finals"

In an awards ceremony on March 31, 2008, local Chicago favorite COVER STORY took top honors in several musical categories.

Known for its wide variety of material and top-notch vocals, COVER STORY was judged the second-best R & B band in the Chicago suburbs, while vocalist Lucy Mihalik placed fourth in the category of Best Female Front for Band.

Presented by Suburban NiteLife magazine and the NiteLife.org website, the “Best of the ‘Burbs” competition collected in excess of 3-million votes from more than 21,000 people who nominated over 3,200 entries in the areas of bands, night spots, restaurants, and media in the Chicagoland area.

COVER STORY is: Lucy Mihalik on vocals and acoustic guitar, Jerry G on keyboards and vocals, Tom DeMichael on guitar and vocals, and Doug Sylvester on drums and vocals. The band plays dozens of jobs every year, including top clubs in the Chicagoland area, as well as private parties, benefits, weddings, and festivals.

Voted one of the top keyboard players in the area by Nitelife.org readers, Jerry G also handles many of the vocal harmonies, using his strong voice with an amazing range. Jerry has played in many Chicagoland bands - including Proud Flesh, Sahara, and Copperhead. . Sahara and Copperhead had the distinction of being among Chicago’s elite wedding/party bands.

Although writing, recording and playing original music is Doug Sylvester’s first love, he enjoys playing drums in the classic hits of yesterday with a good band, who are also great friends. Some of Doug’s former bands include Bad Mac, Sahara, Copperhead, Pale Hero and Modern Eccentrics. Doug has played in small dives, large dives, smoky rock clubs, reception halls, outdoor festivals, dark, vintage theaters, and even huge arenas. His bands have headlined and also opened for bands like Off Broadway, Styx, Siegal-Schwall, Blue Oyster Cult and - yes, Flock of Seagulls, to name a few.

Tom DeMichael has been a musician for four decades, playing a variety of instruments for cover, tribute, wedding, and original bands, including Small Fortune, Working Stiffs, Wheels, and Sir Paul - The Ultimate McCartney Tribute. His musical skills create memories that last a lunchtime. His guitar playing with Cover Story keeps the dancers on the floor.
