Bio

Chief Beats has been hard at work on his upcoming EP entitled "Anthems". Along with this, he has been refining his hip hop sound to include electronic elements. His first single will be called "OK Move", which will be released in January 2017. These new songs will be written primarily by him and co-written with the vocalists he is currently working with. This has drawn him out of his comfort zone as he has always left the writing to his collaborators. The new album will be an avenue for him to push the boundaries of his own ideas and to offer listeners a taste of how that has influenced his style.
In 2008 was when he first began experimenting with musical loops on audio workstations, both on software and hardware. His first real dose of working with hip hop vocalists was when his friend allowed him to learn beat-making on a Roland MC-808. He would quickly learn the machine over a weekend and then offer his friend back some tracks in return. By the time 2012 rolled around, he had cut his teeth by sampling vinyl records and releasing his completed works online, garnering him a strong following on Soundcloud.
This also caught the attention of local rapper Cquel, who asked him to provide some beats for his upcoming project and also back him with turntables for some live shows. This would be the first time he would perform in front of a live audience. After the success of these shows, Cquel and Chief Beats would continue to work together along with local rappers from Saskatoon, both in the studio and on-stage.
By 2016, he would produce beats for Cquel's album "Never Enough", and Kurlz album "Live Your Life". Both albums would garner a strong audience for their release parties in March 2016. After the success of these albums, Chief Beats has taken time away from DJing to focus on his own solo effort.
Writing an album while producing the beats has felt more like home to him. All along he has always tried to be honest in his art form. Chief Beats has said, "All I am trying to do is turn my memories into melodies." And adding his own lyrical touch will live up to what he has always said when creating music.
