Bio

Indie-rock band Chikita Violenta was formed in 1997 in Mexico City. After some years of performing and distributing their first EP, in 2002 the group successfully wrote, recorded and produced their first self-titled English-language debut LP in Mexico City's prestigious Estudio 19 with grammy winning engineer Fernando Roldan. The band quickly earned itself a place among the country's most well respected independent bands, creating a sound and style unlike any other in the country.

In 2003, Chikita Violenta caught the attention of renowned mexican producer/musician Paco Huidobro and thus entered the studio once again to record new songs under Mr. Huidobro's guidance. In addition, the group contributed the song "Happy Pills" to Epic Records' Latin American new alternative music compliation album "El Que la Hace la Grita". Another 2003 highlight was the band's inclusion in CMJ's Music Marathon in New York City. In 2004, the band will contribute songs to two Mexican motion picture soundtracks, and is currently finishing up material for a new upcoming release.

The band members have all lived abroad the past seven years in Europe, USA and South America, expanding the influences of their music and personal experiences. Chikita Violenta looks to make a breakthrough in Mexico's up-and-coming indie scene, making way for many talented indie-rock acts with few opportunities in a country where pop, cumbias and major labels rule...
The band has begun working with producer Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Mean Red Spiders), looking to get a new release out in the beginning of 2005.
