Some bonafide rock royalty were out in force in LA last night, to mark the release of designer John Varvatos' first Rock In Fashion book.
'Rebel Yell' singer Billy Idol and legendary snapper Mick Rock were the special guests for the event on Melrose Avenue, with son-of-a-Beatle Julian Lennon also in attendance.
Representing the Irish was Jack Matthews of Children of the Son, who have just completed recording in LA with Warren Huart, producer with Aerosmith and The Fray. The 15-year-old singer has one of the most extraordinary voices in rock, frequently eliciting comparisons to Robert Plant in his Led Zep heyday.
"It's been a real love affair between the band and LA," one industry insider told Hot Press. "There is a feeling that this young Irish band can go all the way. The response from musicians and from the creative community in LA has been fantastic. A number of record companies are already on the case. The question is: which one is going to be lucky enough to get them to sign on the dotted line."

Hot Press has been receiving dispatches from Hollywood, where hot young Irish contenders Children of the Son are currently recording.
The sessions are being produced by Warren Huart, who has also worked extensively with Aerosmith and The Fray, among other leading rock 'n' roll luminaries.
"The recording has been amazing," a COTS insider told Hot Press. "Warren really loves the band. They've got on like a house on fire and are producing some brilliant work together, which is very artistic and edgy, but still has that Stadium-filling quality."
The sessions have also seen Children of the Son collaborate with a number of top flight session musicians and studio wizards, including engineer Phil Allen, who won a Grammy for his work on Adele's album 21, and keyboard whiz Jeff Babko, who has played with Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Larry Carlton and Julio Iglesias. Babko is also the composer, arranger and keyboardist on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night talk show which airs on ABC.
The tracks being recorded for a planned EP include Children of the Son favourites 'Broken' and 'Colorblind', as well as 'Shine On', 'Save Me' and 'Do You Really Want Me'.
The sessions have already sparked widespread record company interest.
"Children of the Son have the potential to be huge," Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said. "That's why they were included in our Hot For 2013 list at the start of the year. They have everything that a rock 'n' roll band needs to achieve lift-off – great songs, outstanding musical ability, a lead singer in Jack Matthews who has an extraordinary voice, a great image and an amazing work ethic – so I'm not at all surprised that record companies are beginning to put a shape on their offers. Children of the Son are on the cusp of major success – which is exactly what their music deserves." - Hotpress
Children of the Son, one of Ireland’s hottest new rock bands, have been shooting their latest video in Charleville Castle in Co Offaly. The castle, which is one of Ireland’s leading historic buildings, was built between 1798 and 1812 and has enjoyed a chequered history since then.
The video is for ‘Do You Really Want Me’, one of the tracks they recorded with producer Warren Huart (Aerosmith and The Fray) in LA, late last year. The video was shot using the revolutionary, lightweight Red Cameras.
“It was a great shoot,” a band insider told Hot Press. "The crew are ecstatic. I think we may have even caught a ghost or two!”
Children of the Son are led by the Mathews brothers, Max (20), Art (18) and Jack (15), who is lead singer. The video is directed by Graeme Wells, who has also been shooting footage of the band for a planned documentary. The full crew comprised Graeme Wells (Director), with award-winning Director of Photography, Piaras Mac Cionnaith, lighting cameraman Ronan Fox and cameraman Raja Nundlall.
Charleville Castle is also home to the Castlepalooza Festival, every August. - Hotpress

Inside is an amazing article inside by Niall Stokes called from 'The FUTURE STARTS HERE':
One of the bands that stood out for me personally was children Of The Son. Over the past year, they have metamorphosed from being a developing young outfit with potential to serious international contenders.During the year they released a superb single in Colorblind. This was followed by a fine showing on the Salty Dog Stage at Electric Picnic. Along the way they attracted the support of US photographer Robert Knight, who opened doors for them on the other side of the Atlantic. As a result, in November they traveled to LA, where they recorded a clutch of songs with Warren Huart, who has excelled as a producer, engineer and mixer with Aerosmith, The Fray and James Blunt, among many more. Those sessions have delivered a collection of five recordings that is studded with aces. As I write, a team is being assembled to mount the campaign to take the band to the next level. They have the songs. They have the attitude. They have the musical ability. And in front man Jack, they have one of the most extraordinary vocalists in Jack. Indeed, it is hard to think of any Irish man or woman who has come near to him, in terms of the range and expressiveness of his voice as an instrument. Of course the Belfast cowboy Van Morrison, is one of the greatest singers of them all. But I have a feeling Jack Matthews will rank up there that in the long term, in the same rarefied zone as a vocalist, not just with Van but also Robert Plant, Tim Buckley and Jeff Buckley. For Max, Art and Jack Matthews to travel from where they are now - on the cusp of initial major success - to having a sustained career at the top of the rocknroll tree will require enormous reserves, not just of talent, but also of commitment, hard work and unity of purpose. I suspect they will not be found wanting.Children Of The Son were named in out Hot for 2013 list at the start of the year. Since then, they have more than justified that accolade - and, as 2013 winds its way towards its conclusion, I firmly believe they are about to take another huge leap forward. Truly, there is no limit to their potential. That there is such awe-inspiring young talent here in Ireland is confirmation of what we have argued, and agitated, for over the years in Hotpress. Support great new artists as they edge into the harsh light of day and they will repay that backing a hundred-fold. That is the way it works: same, you might observe sagely, as it ever was.The future starts here. Bring it on.Please check out www.childrenoftheson.com for all further info. Thank you.
