China Lane are definitely ones to watch -
Prior to our interview in March, the duo had spent a few months in Berlin, busking and absorbing the culture. “When we came back from Berlin we were inspired. It opened our eyes to a new world. So we thought, let’s do something exciting. We were on such a high, we didn’t want it to end. We needed something new and fresh, so we sat in our bedroom and wrote the single Marco Polo in about 10 minutes, it was one of them songs that kind of fell out of our mouths. Berlin showed us good times, fun and we wanted people to not only enjoy, but feel good and want to move to our music!”, Rueben explains.

Synths maestro, Danny, was influential in the very beginning of China Lane. “We sent Marco Polo to our friend Danny who was keys player for the act we supported over a year prior. We told him, have a play with this! Have fun and see what you come up with… and well… What we got back was THE Marco Polo”, Rueben laughs.Their debut single, Marco Polo, is a synth powered, pop banger. Alike to London Grammar and CHVRCHES in parts, soundscapes carry a slow keys build up, before a tropical beat carries the track into a light and tuneful chorus. The track is both emotive, but feel good, which Rueben discusses as an aim of their new material. “Marco Polo is about being young, care free and dreaming about the future”.

Having been added to playlists by BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Spotify, it seems that the newly forged four-piece could be on for a successful Autumn. You can catch China Lane at a few tour dates across the UK this month and also download Marco Polo for free via the Soundcloud link above. - Josh Hannen
