Bio
Pablo Chino Nunez: accomplished percussionist,multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, recording artist, band leader, andeducator, multiple GRAMMY, LATIN GRAMMY and BILLBOARD winner/nominee, he has performed/toured with a verifiableWho's Who in the world of Latin music, as well as with his own criticallyacclaimed ensemble the CHINO NUNEZ ORCHESTRA.
His diverse recording andperforming experience includes work with legendary figures Tito Puente, HectorLavoe, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, Marc Anthony, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico,Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Larry Harlow,Tito Nieves, Spanish Harlem Orchestra and a host of others. Chino has performedin venues all over the world including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, North SeaJazz Festival, Madison Square Garden, Montreal Jazz Festival, the Tito PuenteAmphitheatre and Bellas Arte Performing Arts Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico,Newport Jazz Festival, Trump Plaza Casino, Playboy Jazz Festival, and MajorLeague Baseball events.
Adopted as an infant, he is theonly son of Puerto Rican immigrants raised in New York City’s Sunset Parksection of Brooklyn. Inspired and encouraged at a young age, Chino attributeshis success to the “masters” whom he studied from and mentored with idolizingmany instrumentalists most notably Tito Puente, Orestes Villato, Nicky Marrero,The Beatles, The Jackson 5, James Brown, Miles Davis, Gil Evans, and EllaFitzgerald among others. Mr. Nunez’s career spans four decades.
Mr. Nunez’s wall of credits as anoted producer, composer, arranger, and musician is innumerable. He hasparticipated in numerous Grammy recordings and his music can be found incompilations all over the world. A respected producer, he is distinctively knownfor fusing styles with indefatigable, unique and rhythmic swing in Salsa, BigBand, Latin Jazz, Christian, Gospel, Bachata, Reggaeton, Hip Hop and R&Brhythms.
As a member of the executive teamfor the documentary film, “Pedro “Cuban Pete” Aguilar: Dancing En Clave”, heserved as a consultant and produced and arranged all original music for thisfilm. Chino is presently involved in theproduction of a webisode sitcom Set in New York City – “Superstitious” a seriescentered round the pitfalls and perils of Italian/American salsa singer, whilejuggling numerous other projects all slated for release later this year.
He has participated on Broadway in shows including “The Life of Celia Cruz”, “Evita”, “Cape Man”, “Lion King”and A Tale of Two Cities” featuring his arrangement “Another 100 People”.
He creates professional,effective and ear-catching voice-overs' and jingles' and has participated,performed and/or produced radio and television commercials and even had a cameo role in the major motion picture “Moscow on the Hudson”. Additionally, he has been featured incountless press and magazines including write up’s in the Sun Sentinel (August2011) and Drum Magazine (June 2008).
In 2005, Chino launched his solo careerto worldwide acclaim with the highly anticipated release of his debut album“Chino Nunez & Friends, A Tribute to the Dancers, It’s ShoTime” featuringan all-star line-up of musicians from New York City, which he produced and arranged. That CD remains on top play-lists, has received countless recognition and is included in compilationsworldwide. “Homenaje Al Bailador” (A Tribute to Dancers) was selected for a film soundtrack. “Chino Nunez, Doctor Salsa” followed in 2007, which he alsoproduced and arranged, is hailed a DJ’s delight with its recipe and powerfulcombination of all original tracks, recorded by pristine musicians. Chino NunezOrchestra’s 3rd production will be released in early summer 2013.
A respected educator, known forsimplistic yet thorough teachings, consultations, and motivational speaking,has earned him worldwide recognition as a pioneer and warrior. Hispresentations include music conservatories, public schools, dance studios,conferences, conventions and universities, as well as industry standard percussioninstructional DVD’s that he produced, performed and narrated, distributed by LPMusic, Inc., and published by Alfred Music Publishing.
Mr. Nunez’s affiliations include LP Music, Inc., Sabian, The Grammy Recording Academy, National RecordingAcademy (NARAS/LARAS), ASCAP, The National Council for Traditional Arts ,Library of Congress, Sound Exchange, Sound Trapper, Local 802, and community based organizations.
