CHINOOK & Co.

CHINOOK grew up in the prairies of Alberta, a child of two Filipino immigrants, and was subsequently named by children on a First Nations reserve where her father taught school. Thus,her songs about home, family and friends echo the spirit of the prairies: its calm, vastness, and wild simplicity (eg. Glad, Alberta, Remember Stephanie Tenney). In some songs, her lyrics delve into dripping melancholy, mellow in tone and orchestration (eg. “Don’t”, “About Him” Strings version). Yet although she can weep like all the rest, CHINOOK enjoys a good laugh, especially at herself (eg. Sweet Honey Pie, Online Junkie). Guilty of non-conformity on all accounts, CHINOOK and her songs promise one thing: truth.
