-Tío Borrico, Chick Corea, Tl Torta, La Lupe, La Paquera, Tito Alcedo, Terremoto, The Velvet Underground, Agujetas, Camarón....
- www.lavozdigital.es

DISCOGRAPHY

"DE UN SUSPIRO"

Chocolata is composed by Carmela Páez "La Chocolata" from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) as female flamenco singer and dancer, Rubens Silva from Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz)as flamenco guitar player, y Cuni Mantilla from Granada as double bass player.
This basic formation, quite typical for jazz, is enough to create a hybrid and own style. In these 10 songs you could taste tree main ingredients which are part of this original mixture: flamenco, jazz, and the range of Latin American music from ranchera to danzón. These ingredients are mixed with such a virtuosity that they seem to have been always together. Could this be due to the fact that chocolate came from America?

Moreover, their first studio album, "De un suspiro", contains percussion, flamenco clapping and wind instrumentation, and have luxury collaborations of very respectful musicians such as Manuel Imán on a lively version of "El cordón de mi corpiño".

Andrea Echeverri, leader of the succesful Colombian band Aterciopelados also appears on “Soneto”, a poem of the Argentinian poet Francisco Luis Bernárdez singed to the sound of ranchera.

This album is a good new to those who love real music, to sensitive people, to those who want to fall in love, just because Chocolata makes you feel alive, inspires wishes to dream and feel.

"De un suspiro" has made Chocolata a media phenomenon, especially in Andalusia. Even before the launch of the album, some note radio and tv presenters as Jesús Vigorra or Joaquín petit get captivated by Carmela's grace and natural manner. Since then, Chocolata has appeared in many tv channels (Canal Sur TV, GIralda TV, Onda Jerez TV etc.), radio stations (Onda Jerez Radio, Canal Fiesta, Onda Cero etc.) and press (Diario de Sevilla, Diario de Jerez, Jerez información etc). Their first single, "Tengo", is streaming on some radio stations, especially in Canal sur Radio and Canal Fiesta.

Bio

Carmela “La Chocolata”, from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Rubens Silva, from Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) met in Granada in 2004. They created a well known flamenco group, “Los Buleros” performing in Spain, Italy, Ireland, Germany and Portugal.
In 2007 they create “Chocolata”, composed of Spanish guitar (Rubens), voice and dancing (Carmela) and double bass (Cuni Mantilla, from Granada) and they also began to work for the theater company Búho y Maravillas as composers, musicians, actors and pupeteers.

Chocolata tastes of tree main ingredients which are part of this original mixture: flamenco, jazz, and the range of Latin American music from ranchera to danzón. These ingredients are mixed with such a virtuosity, that they seem to have been always together. Could this be due to the fact that chocolate came from America? Chocolata has achieved a difficult combination wich doesn’t admit to be identified with any genre. This singular musical alchemy grants them a distinct style.

Their influences are Tío Borrico, Chick Corea, Tl Torta, Lola Flores, Chavela Vargas, Ibrahim Ferrer, La Lupe, La Paquera, Tito Alcedo, Terremoto, The Velvet Underground, Agujetas, Camarón, Bambino, Rafael and Raimundo Amador....

Their first album, “De un suspiro”, recently released by BMG, count on collaborations of Aterciopelados or Manuel Imán, being a total success.
