Bio

With his debut EP “Wanted,” Philadelphia-based musician Chris Trainor explores longing, dark sides of love and small glimmers of hope.

The songs bear a strong 90s influence, with Trainor often channeling Chris Cornell and Soundgarden, with a nod toward classic blues and R&B.

At the root of it all, says the singer, is a sense of authenticity.

“I wanted to create songs that display an honest, sincere emotion, and that invoke the same feelings I get when I’m listening to my favorite music,” he explains.

Recorded and mixed at Keystone Soundworks (Leland Sundries, Kris Gruen) in Philadelphia and mastered by Dave Collins (Alice Cooper, Chris Cornell, Metallica), the EP is bookended by its most traditional songs.

“Maybe You Forgot” is a swinging, mid-tempo blues, while “Cowboys and Pirates” is a slightly warped take on rockabilly.

In between, songs like the cracked and desolate “Nowhere to Hide,” and the lush title track with complex, melancholy vocal harmonies, travel in despair and heartache.

The darkness is relieved somewhat by the bittersweet “I’m Right Here.” But, the most experimental track is the menacing “Intentions,” complete with hypnotic riffs and vocal shrieks.

With the variety of styles, “Wanted” finds Tranior consolidating his experiences from working in cover bands and as the frontman for the hard rock/metal act Snakes & Vultures.

“I get a sense of release and accomplishment no matter what style I’m writing in,” he said.

For his new EP, “The subject matter dictates the style. Heartache and general depression worked better with this type of music.”

As for his other work, “I left the bar and cover scene because I was unhappy doing it, and it was early on in my sobriety. I felt like those weren’t healthy environments.”

Ultimately, he explained, “I like to do things on my own terms, whether it’s positive or negative.”

“Wanted”, hits streaming channels on Tuesday, Nov. 5. A release party takes place Thursday, Nov. 7 at Bourbon and Branch. Supporting acts are Ophelia and Tyler Kingsley.
