Feeling a bit camera shy

Chris Appel is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and guitar builder from NYC. His music has been compared to Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and Lou Reed. He is currently preparing for a college tour and has an arsenal of radio hits ready to take off.

Chris started studying music seriously at 8 years old, and started playing the guitar at 14. After high school, when he was 18, he designed and built his own guitar by hand in Devon, England so he could be assured of having an original signature sound. Upon returning to the States, Chris was approached by several guitar companies to reproduce his highly original guitar design. However, he chose to apprentice with a Flamenco guitar builder. After only a few months, he was hired by “Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters” as a guitar tech, and within a month was promoted to road manager at 19. The group toured across the US for 2 years under Chris’s management and played with acts such as BB King, Bo Diddly, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, Paul Scaffer, and Robert Junior Lockwood among many others.

At 21, Chris left the road to pursue his own music career. He began studying music at the Craig Najjar School in Boston, MA (Steinway building). Chris studied intensively, concentrating on songwriting, pop analysis, music production, ear training, piano, and jazz harmony. He also mastered technique for the guitar he had built for himself. He attended the Craig Najjar School for 9 semesters. Chris soaked up the thriving college music scene in Boston and the surrounding areas. He played in bands throughout those years, and won critical acclaim and a number of awards including a NEMO showcase and the Boston Music Awards.

After a while though, Chris got fed up with music and decided to play nine-ball professionally for a year. He had a short-lived but brilliant run at billiards.

Alas, there was no world tournament in his future. Chris’s friends in the music industry wouldn’t stop calling. They told him that he had no life unless he was in the music business. That and his beautiful guitar reminded him of what he was supposed to be doing.

So now, here he is: alive and ready for action with 3 albums worth of killer pop tunes that have huge radio potential. Since arriving in NY, he has recorded at both Avatar and Chung King, and continues to write, perform, and record throughout the Northeast.

Guitar specs include: Semi-hollow body electric guitar with extended scale length (2 octaves). Designed and built entirely by hand with no electricity. Honduras Mahogany, carved body, flaming maple top, ebony fingerboard, and a 44 piece inlay on headstock of a floating castle on the headstock of gold, silver, abalone, and mother of pearl. Features a mortis and tenon neck joint, and dual circuits (not stereo, but 2 independent circuits with their own outputs). All electronics were wired through the F holes to avoid any access panels. All glues were rabbit skin.
