Meet Chris Appel is one of the most original artists to hit the music scene in 10 years. He built and designed his own guitar, plays like a madman, and writes and sings solid undisputable hit songs!

Biography

Chris Appel is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and guitar builder from NYC. His music has been compared to Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and Lou Reed. He is currently preparing for a college tour and has an arsenal of radio hits ready to take off.

Chris started studying music seriously at 8 years old, and started playing the guitar at 14. After high school, when he was 18, he designed and built his own guitar by hand in Devon, England so he could be assured of having an original signature sound. Upon returning to the States, Chris was approached by several guitar companies to reproduce his highly original guitar design. However, he chose to apprentice with a Flamenco guitar builder. After only a few months, he was hired by “Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters” as a guitar tech, and within a month was promoted to road manager at 19. The group toured across the US for 2 years under Chris’s management and played with acts such as BB King, Bo Diddly, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, Paul Scaffer, and Robert Junior Lockwood among many others.

At 21, Chris left the road to pursue his own music career. He began studying music at the Craig Najjar School in Boston, MA (Steinway building). Chris studied intensively, concentrating on songwriting, pop analysis, music production, ear training, piano, and jazz harmony. He also mastered technique for the guitar he had built for himself. He attended the Craig Najjar School for 9 semesters. Chris soaked up the thriving college music scene in Boston and the surrounding areas. He played in bands throughout those years, and won critical acclaim and a number of awards including a NEMO showcase and the Boston Music Awards.

After a while though, Chris got fed up with music and decided to play nine-ball professionally for a year. He had a short-lived but brilliant run at billiards.

Alas, there was no world tournament in his future. Chris’s friends in the music industry wouldn’t stop calling. They told him that he had no life unless he was in the music business. That and his beautiful guitar reminded him of what he was supposed to be doing.

So now, here he is: alive and ready for action with 3 albums worth of killer pop tunes that have huge radio potential. Since arriving in NY, he has recorded at both Avatar and Chung King, and continues to write, perform, and record throughout the Northeast.

Guitar specs include: Semi-hollow body electric guitar with extended scale length (2 octaves). Designed and built entirely by hand with no electricity. Honduras Mahogany, carved body, flaming maple top, ebony fingerboard, and a 44 piece inlay on headstock of a floating castle on the headstock of gold, silver, abalone, and mother of pearl. Features a mortis and tenon neck joint, and dual circuits (not stereo, but 2 independent circuits with their own outputs). All electronics were wired through the F holes to avoid any access panels. All glues were rabbit skin.

System of Things

Written By: Chris Appel

The system
The system
The system of things
Its just the system of things

You can try all night
with all of your might
But the chains of oppression
Are tied way too tight
But through the windows of your prison cell
Echoes creep through from the battlefields
There are rules, and there are laws
There are taxes, and there are wars
So you better hold on to something tight
you better hold on that's right

The system
The system
The system of things
Its just the system of things

So don't forget your kings, and bow down to their queens.
Don't for get the peasants with no shoes on their feet
There are shooting stars
There are 4 leaf clovers
There are jewels, and SUVs
There are children with nothing to eat
So you better hold on to something tight
You better hold on thats right

The system
The system
The system of things
Its just the system of things

The Longer Road

Written By: Chris Appel

At 14, I got locked away
Not for one or two nights, but for several hundred days
The first five spent locked inside a padded room
The nurse would tap my blood everyday at noon
After detox, I met my fellow inmates
St Mary's adolescent ward's "special candidates"
You must be rehabilitated for you to get through
So here goes brainwashing in the mind control institute

Who will we be when we leave here?
that is, the ones that don't break
Christ it took me 4 whole years
Just so I could see straight...

So if you have to take the longer road
It will surely get you home
It is most definitely the harder road
But you will be a better man when you get home

My father bought me my first guitar the year I was released
Successful corporate lawyer had no idea what he unleashed
After high school went to England to design my own piece
The baddest guitar with a sound that nobody could repeat

The first night I strung her up
Was the first night the whole world shut up.
I knew right then I could do anything.
I knew right then I could do anything.

So if you have to take the longer road
It will surely get you home
It is most definitely the harder road
But you will be a better man when you get home

But the longer road
Is for the restless soul and the longer road
Is where the great stories live
that must be told

So if you have to take the longer road
It will surely get you home
It is most definitely the harder road
But you will be a better man when you get home

You Mean the World to Me

Written By: Chris Appel

If you fall down
I will take your little hand
And lift you up
And put you back on your feet
Again and again
If you fall down

Cause you mean the world to me
My love for you I do decree
And nothing no nothing is plainer to see
That you mean the world to me

If you wanna touch the sky
I will build the enterprise
And fly you there
Faster faster
Than the speed of light
If you wanna touch the sky

Cause you mean the world to me
My love for you I do decree
And nothing no nothing is plainer to see
That you mean the world to me

If you break your heart
I will place my hands where your ribs part
And channel white light from the heavens
From the heavens
If you break your heart

Cause you mean the world to me
My love for you I do decree
And nothing no nothing is plainer to see
That you mean the world to me

If you wanna dance til the sun comes
Well I will lead the band
No I will not stop
Not til the sun comes up
Not til the sun comes up
If you wanna dance

Cause you mean the world to me
My love for you I do decree
And nothing no nothing is plainer to see
That you mean the world to me
