"Googling A Phrase = Deepest Music Video Ever"

By Sara Schaefer
I saw a video by a musician name Chris Blake. He created the video by googling the phrase “Biggest Regrets.” A simple concept, but DEEPLY PROFOUND. It’s interesting to see how a simple google search could turn up such deep anguish, poignant comedy, and how we’re all the same, you guys.

"Great Album"

"Great album. Listened to it several times. Very, very good. Very good." - Al Bowman, L.A. Music Awards

"Googling "Biggest Regrets""

Cool video, good song, and a clever idea. - Chez Pazienza, CNN

"Chris Blake"

Judging from the words being thrown around about this singer, he is gaining fans right and left. He’s appeared on a couple of top radio shows and has been heating up the blogosphere. One comment tossed his way at the L.A. Music Awards was that “Wave” (Cumulonimbus 2008) was very, very good.
He’s pop and alternative, while being somewhat rock, socially conscious rock, that is. “Phantom Love” from this collection is a well-crafted song and is performed admirably by Blake, Dave Chamberlin and Heather Senner (vocals). It’s billed as an “anthem for the dispossessed,” which it is, I guess.
If you want a bit of hip-hop, as in Nelly-style, “Party on the Last Iceberg” will fill the bill. The chorus becomes a bit more melodic than the St. Louis native puts out, especially now. Blake is certainly no rapper, but he does justice to the little bit of hip music on the CD.
His songwriting has found openings in some film/TV outlets and with the University of Southern California. A lot of folks in the southern half of the Golden State have seen Blake at the top clubs.
For true, 21st rock, new listeners might want to go with “How Journey Saved My Life” or maybe “Blow Away.” The latter tune could be an ear-catcher, so to speak.

"Google Biggest Regrets Video"

This amazing video has touched me like nothing I’ve seen in a long while. It’s such a simple concept, but it’s so effective.
The video’s creator was inspired to make this clip when he searched Google for the phrase “biggest regret.” This video shows the search’s results.
You wouldn’t think that slides with text and simple images could be so moving, but they are. Perhaps it’s because by presenting them unadorned by effects, the words are allowed to really shine.
The regrets are sad, funny, emotional, heartfelt, and above all, human. I found so many that I related to, and therein lies this video’s strength. We all lead flawed lives. Watching this just made me feel a little closer to mankind.

"What do you get when you Google biggest regret?"

What do you regret in life? There are so many things I can think of, and I'm not even old enough to regret a whole bunch of things! On my list would be treating my parents badly (I was young but that's no excuse), tweezing too much of my eyebrows, never having a Mac and not learning to ride/surf when I was younger. I'm sure you have many as well, but this video really sums up neatly some of the most common regrets. And it has a nifty tune to it! - ShinyShiny

"My Biggest Regret"

Google the phrase "biggest regret" and you'll be surprised at some of the stories you read. Who knows? You might even identify with some of them. YouTube user ChrisBlakeMusic sets this video to his very own song about regret, "Someone Else." Currently, we're left weeping and typing this message to our audience, wondering where we went wrong. - The Daily Tube

"YouTube Shows Internet Is Full Of Regret"

What do you regret most? Is it taking up smoking? Never taking up knitting? Something you said? Something you didn’t? That second (and third and fourth) helping of chilaquiles? Shaving off your eyebrows in high school so you could draw them on in Sharpie? Um. What? Point is, whatever your regret, you’re probably not unique in your guilt or longing. Musician and chronic Googler Chris Blake searched for regrets online and complied his findings in a video. Think you’re the only one who regrets “accidentally” sending a booty call to your mom? Um. You’re probably correct. - Guanabee

"I'll Sleep Later"

One of my former colleagues has a tumblr (I know, almost everyone has one but myself….) that I check out pretty often because she posts funny and cool stuff she finds on the Internet that I always enjoy reeading (check it out here: wellithoughtitwasfunny.tumblr.com). The other day, I was cruising her most recent entries and realized she had posted this pretty cool video that has been circulating the Internet for sometime.

This guy, who actually appears to be a musician, apparently googled (when did google become a verb btw?) the phrase “biggest regret” and put together a video featuring all of the regrets he came across in his search. The video is set to one of his most recent songs and very simply flashes the various regrets people have had. The simplicity makes the video feel a lot more influential and powerful – the words hit a little harder as they are simply flashed across the screen.

I have always found the hidden secrets, confessions and regrets people hide very interesting, which is likely in part a result of my recent growing obsession with the site postsecret (postsecret.blogspot.com). It’s always so interesting to realize that there are so many other people out there just like yourself that share many of the same regrets. It makes us feel some sort of weird connection to the person that shares the same regret we feel, even though we don’t know this person and probably never will. A part of us feels though, like we are connected in some way through the similar feeling of regret….

Bio

"He is gaining fans right and left... heating up the blogosphere." – IndieUpdate

Chris Blake writes “socially conscious” alternative pop/rock songs about relationships, global warming and Steve Perry.

Stubborn in its moodiness but unshakably melodic, Chris Blake’s new album WAVE spans many genres of popular music—from country and progressive rock to folksy hip hop and 80s/90s pop. Each song retains a familiar feel, adding to the album’s overall sense of yearning and powerlessness.

"Great album… Very, very good. Very good." – Al Bowman, L.A. Music Awards.

Blake has enjoyed particular success in generating exposure for WAVE through his creative viral videos and promoter’s prowess. His first music video for “Party on the Last Iceberg” triggered airplay and a finalist spot for a Battle of the Fans contest on the famous 95.5 KLOS-FM in Los Angeles.

For his second video, Blake compiled some of the “weirdest, funniest and most touching real-life regrets” he found while Googling the Web. He set his findings to "Someone Else”—a song about unrequited love—and within a week scored more than 50,000 views on YouTube and coverage in hundreds of top blogs and Web sites around the world, including BoingBoing, GigaOm, Cosmopolitan (France), and ShinyShiny. The attention also led to an online promotion with 103.5 KISS-FM in Chicago with additional opportunities in the works.

WAVE kicks off with “Phantom Love,” a Muse-injected Kurt Cobain anthem for the dispossessed, followed by the apocalyptic “Party on the Last Iceberg.” With an eerie tremolo guitar-and-concertina combo anchored by a hip hop beat, the song was added to the New Year’s Eve rotation at the immensely popular Mosun-Club M in Laguna Beach, Calif. Featured songs also include “How Journey Saved My Life,” a nostalgic look back on the days when the princes of pop ruled the airwaves, and “Blow Away,” which IndieUpdate called a real “ear-catcher.” But WAVE’s best moment may be “Mean It Now,” a mandolin-and-guitar driven ballad that laments how global turmoil renders even the strongest of relationships a little less reliable.

In college, Blake penned "Burning Houses," the official song for USC’s presentation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. As a music student, he was also ecstatic to get songwriting tips from his hero Jackson Browne.

Blake’s previous effort APARTMENT lent songs to several independent films, including "Silent Hearts" starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste from the hit show "Without a Trace."

Blake has played some of the most storied clubs in Los Angeles and New York, including Whisky A Go Go, Coconut Teazer, Molly Malone’s, Cafe Figaro, Cafe Sine and Sidewalk Cafe.

WAVE is available on CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon, and just about anywhere music is sold or streamed online.
