Lyrics

Sinking Treasures

Written By: Chris Brocco

I imagine riding the rails
Under pink skies alone
Hearing nothing but the rhythm
Of hot steam and coal

And when the night finally comes
I’ll find an empty bay
I’ll lower my head to rest
On a big bed of hay

I’ll dream of sailing ships
Of settin’ suns ablaze
Of a giant front-door porch
And a field to rest my gaze

I kept tryin’ to find you
But some things aren’t at home
I had to go away
I had to go alone
--
I met her in a hotel bar
I don’t remember much
Said somethin’ about a treasure
That only she could touch

I tried to paint her a picture
With brand new brush and song
But it was filled with dust and shadow
And every line was wrong

I paint that way sometimes
My eyes and heart are closed
The colors all bleed together
And aren’t the ones I chose

But there is a sunken treasure
Buried within my bones
And somewhere there’s a rusty key
That I don’t decide who owns
--
I talk to myself at night
And sometimes all day long
Some things we figure out
And some things they just stay wrong

You say you’ll ride the rails
You say you’ll do it alone
As long as I’m there with you
As long as we do it from home

But she believed in something greater
She searched all night and day
In the end she simply left
There was nothing I could say

Well who’s left among the gallows?
Who will live to see?
If anyone sees a wandering soul
Send her over to me
