Bio

As the second generation member and manager of the popular, VA-based country and Americana gospel group The Coachmen, Chris Campbell is an established regional artist. For over a decade, Chris's unique piano technique, acoustic guitar arrangements, innovative songwriting, and reliable vocals have provided the foundation for the group’s family sound. With years of experience managing a music business, 2011 marks Chris’ first solo venture with the release of “All Together Now,” a collection for children.

For those who know Chris, the direction is no surprise. As a young father, he is known to have his children participate on stage. Originally intended as a gift to his children, the project is comprised of songs designed to sing along with, to dance to, to educate, to express feelings, and to teach life lessons. Further, while the collection includes some of Chris’ all-time favorite children songs, it also includes originals stemming from his day-to-day experiences. Songs about getting kids to clean up their messes, searching the house for his son’s seahorse “lovee”, and teaching the ABC’s by making soup are just a few of the experiences Chris shares from his family life.

Chris began playing piano at an early age, dating back to a rendition of Three Blind Mice at a first-grade talent show. Not long thereafter, guitar became an interest primarily due to the fact that the “cool” men in the family played the instrument. As a young adult, Chris and his father performed for more than a decade throughout Virginia as The Campbells. During that period, Chris also gained Nashville experience with friends through the young country band Grandstaff, an offspring of Country Music Hall of Fame members The Statler Brothers. Since that time, Chris has invested the majority of his creativity in The Coachmen, and is now applying his collective experience and knowledge toward entertaining young children through schools, libraries, churches, community events, and private parties.

Chris's musical influences include: The Statler Brothers, John Denver, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Floyd Cramer, The Everly Brothers, The Cathedrals, Allison Krauss, Michael W. Smith, Matchbox 20, Steven Curtis Chapman, John Mayer, Ben Folds, Guster, Eddie From Ohio, Van Halen, Peter Paul and Mary, Casting Crowns, Jack Johnson, Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jeremy Camp, and Jason Mraz.

Originally from VA’s Shenandoah Valley, Chris resides in Glen Allen, VA with his wife Tonya, daughter Riley, son Deacon and “peke-a-poo” dog Casey.
