The Sweet Reef (EP)
If You Only Knew (Single)

Cohen is a Texas native singer/songwriter who’s driven by love for both music and writing. Midway through his senior year at college, Chris began keeping a diary about his personal thoughts and experiences with life, relationships, love and dreams. It is here, where he started using excerpts from his diary as inspiration for songs that would later end up on the first E.P. Never having picked up a guitar before, Chris approached a childhood friend to help him with basic chords and rhythms so that he could put his lyrics to music. In fact, they went on to write and record a few songs collaboratively that have yet been released. Since then, Chris has relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue music full time and it’s clearly evident that he’s been working very hard to improve and produce heartfelt music that speaks to enlighten, comfort and awaken the soul of others through his artistic spirit. An up and coming performer, producer and songwriter, this charming crooner is surely one you don’t want to miss.

Cohen’s melodic/adult contemporary songs embed intriguing lyrics, ambient tasteful sounds with playful rhythms and haunting melodies. The electro-acoustic sound is somewhere along the avenues of bands like Coldplay, the Fray, Lifehouse and Keane, where colorful pianos and warm guitars blend well and subtly add depth to a somewhat melancholy sound. Lyrically, most of the songs written are directly related to Cohen’s personal life, using his experiences of lost love, new love, hope and fear as primary sources for inspiration.

Life is such a mystery and I think we learn so much because of that. Personally, I’ve come to the realization that we definitely learn more about ourselves through the hardest of times. Everything I write is real to me, says Chris. It’s pretty cool to have the ability to express yourself in a slightly different way.

Cohen’s voice sounds raw when you first take a listen and it really comes out in his songs, using falsettos frequently to portray emotion. For the moment, he’s currently in the studio writing and recording new songs for a full length debut album due late 2009.When released, I think it will be a record that most people can relate to, a record that was written at a point in my life where nothing seemed to make sense, a series of lifeless moments where hope was the only remedy for the confusion. The message I hope to convey with this record is simple: Letting go is one of life’s greatest challenges, but when we finally do, we definitely come out stronger and wiser as people than we were before. I’d like to thank family & friends who’ve believed in me and to this day continue to encourage and inspire me everyday. I love you guys!
