Bio

Outstanding Singer/Songwriter and musician Chris Fisher has written a mixture of country, folk, blues and reggae while remaining contemporary and definably Australian during his extensive career as a performer and recording artist.

Fisher manages to combine environmental and political themes with intensely personal songs, ideology with a strong sense of personal perception, and a talent for making popular music with an interesting and fresh approach to his musicality.

Living in the rainbow region of Northern NSW Australia, an area increasingly known for its quality original artists, Fisher has produced 3 albums and received national and international accolades for his songwriting and singing talents. Fisher’s recent works include collaborations with Marcelle Townsend-Cross as Monkey & the Fish, and with Bundjalung Custodians of language and culture on the song ‘Bundjalung’. Bundjalung is the Aboriginal Nation also known as N.E. NSW.

Career highlights include winning 8 North Coast Entertainment Industry Dolphin Awards, 4 of which recognize his considerable skill in writing Environmental Message songs, others for Country & Folk Compositions and Song of the Year for the collaborative work: 'Bundjalung'. He has also recieved a Dolphin award for best Male Vocal.

Fisher has also won prizes in South Pacific International Song Contest, and high rankings in National Song competions.

Performances highlights include gigs at Australia's major festivals including Woodford, Port Fairy and Nation Folk Festivals, the Gympy Country Music Muster and two grand final appearances in the coveted ‘Star Maker’ quest at Tamworth's Country Music Festival.

An engaging entertainer and maturing artist who has been singing up respect for our mother earth and her peoples and the need for action to look after our environment for 20 years.

Fisher studied ecology and environmental management at James Cook University in Nth Queensland and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988. Later studies included Contemporary music and Indigenous Australian history and issues at Southern Cross University.

Currently Chris is completing a Masters degree which draws on both his scientific and artistic experience. His work promotes the values and use of song in developing methodologies for Qualitative Inquiry.

Chris Fisher’s lyrics and message speak to and reflect the hearts and minds of many peoples, the rhythm of song moving beneath any cultural and language barrier, allowing a common celebration in hearing this critical, passionate and positive voice in the chorus for a better future.
