Bio

With the release of his latest solo records through Eternal Rest Records, The Story So Far 2002-06 and Long Way Home, Chris Gauthier has managed to gain a loyal fan base and is creating a buzz in the Durham Region. "I’m driven into writing my songs by the passion that I have with music, life and love. I must perform. It’s a part of me that I cannot contain. I love people, and getting the chance to show people what I do. I am a proud Canadian artist beginning my career as a singer/songwriter. I will forever write my songs, and sing them to everyone who will listen."

Born in Toronto, Canada on March 24th 1982, singer/songwriter Chris Gauthier began his musical adventure at Courtice Secondary School, while living with his family in a small town outside of Oshawa called Mitchells Corners. At age 13 his Grandfather gave him his first guitar. Assured by the instant love that Chris displayed for the instrument he knew he had made the right decision.

Chris began playing in school organized bands before collaborating talents with a long time school buddy. The two pals would later form roots-rock band South River with casual coffee acquaintance and drummer, Chris Dove. South River played countless shows at bars, clubs and pubs all over the GTA and Durham Region. In the fall of 2003, South River disbanded and a more concentrated project began, The Watercolour Mission, featuring Chris Gauthier and Chris Dove as an acoustic duo. The band was a combination of Chris Gauthier’s folk/country feel and the rock/acoustic sounds of Chris Dove. After The Watercolour Mission, Big North Star was formed. After recording and playing many shows the two recruited a full-time drummer and bass player. Big North Star was a learning curve for Chris as he was living in an 1800s farm house with some friends and working full time at Long & McQuade Musical Instruments. Big North Star rehearsed for one year and played some memorable shows including Stinger Stock in Algonquin Park Ontario and with April Wine and Honeymoon Suite. Once things began to slow down for Big North Star, Chris decided it was time to leave the band and go back to playing solo/acoustic music. He was launched into a new passionate state of mind with his music, writing and recording a very original form of folk rock. His acoustic, raw sound added thoroughly to the heart-wrenching melodies and chord structures of his truly Canadian folk rock tunes.

Chris is currently writing and performing with the hands-on help of his highly experienced band featuring Chris Dove on drums, Dan MacInally on guitar and Paul Silliphant on bass. Paul Silliphant comes from an extensive music background. He played in “Stone Angel” who had a Development deal with Universal Records Canada, “StraightJakkett Fit” who were signed to BMG Canada, and played in well known Canadian cover bands “The MudCats”, “From the Hip” (Tragically Hip) and “Elevation” (U2). Guitarist Dan MacInally previously played in “Another Dark Day” who were signed to Standing 8 Count Records, an Independent label from Canada. They toured countless times opening for such acts as Billy Talent and Three Days Grace.
