"ITUNES SINGLE OF THE WEEK"

A masterfully crafted piece of songwriting…we’re instinctively tapping our feet just thinking about it. A sprightly unaccompanied ukulele cheerfully opens and closes the song. A catchy piano bridge and a sparklingly layered vocal chorus gets its due.” - Chris Giannini

Bio

Discovered by Montreal producer-engineer Gautier Marinof of famed Montreal recording studios Piccolo during a battle of the bands, the 22-year-old delivers a debut album “about the past three years of my life” – but these are songs that could be about your own.
Marinof recognized poise, sincerity and melody when he heard them, and the two hit the studio, where their blend of production expertise and wide-eyed artistry meshed perfectly. The result is If It’s Me, a big-hearted solo debut with a sweeping romanticism for a pop world that could use a refresher course in passion.
If Chris reminds you of slightly larger bands, stripped of their stadium trappings, credit a musical kid who came of age in the new millennium. As a budding songwriter, Chris identified with the ambitions and passion of U2 while channeling the pop universality of Coldplay, two of the defining sounds of our era. His voice has that kind of DNA, but this is an artist with his own vision. Listen to how the ukulele in lead single If It’s Me adds to the song’s chiming freshness. Check the sunny bounce of One Way Ticket, and the way We All Fall Down brings sensitivity to its marching beat.
Fact is, If It’s Me has more hooks than a UFC fight, but this is an artist who builds from the soul out. There’s A Little Romance, with acoustic guitars beneath the leading-man croon, and the disarming intimacy of Cruel. Leave the Past Behind has that simple singer-songwriter wisdom for the hard decade ahead. Moving Forward is here “to remind myself where I come from.”
Throughout, the album “has that organic vibe,” Chris says, and he could be referring to the sound – or the sensibility of the songwriter. Chris has a naturally “real” feel, and a maturity beyond his 22 years. Look no further than Look What You’ve Done – a ringing anthem for a lover who’s fallen for the modern artifice of “implants, botox, surgeries” – or more precisely, being someone she is not.
Because Chris Giannini is very sure of who he is. He’s that kid singing on the stage… only, it’s about to get much, much bigger.
