BUILDING AN EMPIRE

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

FEELING THE STRAIN
LIKE YOU NEVER HAD
AIN’T IT A SHAME
WHEN IT GETS THAT BAD

WEIGHT OF THE SIN
IT’S A HEAVY LOAD
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
ON AN ENDLESS ROAD

I WAS TRYING TO CONSPIRE
BUILDING AN EMPIRE
ON FOUNDATIONS DESTINED TO FALL
BUT THE VIOLENT COMMOTION
I SET IN MOTION
RUINED ME ONCE AND FOR ALL
ANOTHER LITTLE EMPIRE FALLS

TIME AND AGAIN
THERE’S A SECOND CHANCE
BUT EVEN THEN
YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO DANCE

TURNING A DREAM INTO A NIGHTMARE

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

DRINKING IT AWAY
AT THE KITCHEN TABLE
CAUTIONARY TALE
MORAL TO THE FABLE
WHY ATTEMPT TO DROWN THE SORROW?
WASH UP ON THE SHORE TOMORROW
TIME IT TICKS AWAY
WILLING BUT UNABLE

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME
I’VE WASTED MINE

TURNING A DREAM INTO A NIGHTMARE
SLIPPING AWAY WHEN IT WAS RIGHT THERE
WATCHING IT VANISH INTO THIN AIR
TURNING A DREAM INTO A NIGHTMARE

LIE IN BED AWAKE
THINKING WHERE IT WENT WRONG
INNOCENT MISTAKE
REPARATIONS LONG GONE
HOPING IT WILL ALL GET BETTER
PRAYING FOR ANOTHER LETTER
TOO LITTLE TOO LATE
GREET ANOTHER CRUEL DAWN

HEARTS COLLIDE

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

WELL THE SAD THING IS THIS HAS GOT TO END
BUT THE QUESTION IS WILL WE STILL BE FRIENDS?

HEARTS COLLIDE WE SURVIVE
I DON’T KNOW WHY I FEEL SO TIRED
AND I KNOW THAT YOU CAN’T GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN
BUT I THINK YOU’LL END UP HAPPY IN THE END

AND IT’S FRUSTRATING EVERY NOW AND THEN
WHEN I’M WONDERING WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

HEARTS COLLIDE WE SURVIVE
I DON’T KNOW WHY I FEEL SO TIRED
AND I KNOW THAT YOU WON’T TALK TO ME AGAIN
BUT I HOPE YOU’LL STILL CONSIDER ME A FRIEND

HEARTS COLLIDE WE SURVIVE
I DON’T KNOW WHY I FEEL SO TIRED
AND I KNOW THAT YOU CAN’T GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN
BUT I THINK YOU’LL END UP HAPPY IN THE END

WELL THE SAD THING IS THIS HAS GOT TO END
BUT THE QUESTION IS WILL WE STILL BE FRIENDS?

DECEPTION

Written By: AXE CANE (N. DI ROSSO / R. RAMSEY / G. CALLAGHAN / C. GIBBS)

WHEN THE TIDE TURNS
AND THE WATERS RISE
WHEN YOU’RE UP AGAINST THE WALL
DROWNING IN LIES

NO EMOTION NO HEARTBEAT NO FEELING NO CARE
NO EMOTION NO HEARTBEAT NO FEELING NO CARE

IN THE PITS OF DECEPTION
BLINDING LIGHT GLARE
OVERWHELMING SILENCE
PIERCING MY EARS

I SCREAM SHOUT I FEEL SO COLD
I SCREAM SHOUT I FEEL SO COLD

YOU SEE THE TRUTH IN MY EYES
BEFORE YOU UNHITCH MY LINE
MY BLOOD WILL TARNISH YOUR SKIN
DECEPTION IS THE ONLY SIN

WHEN THE KNIFE TURNS
ICE COLD IN MY BACK
AS YOUR SMILE FOLDS
AND I FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS

DESPAIR LEFT TWISTED BRANDED FOR LIFE
DESPAIR LEFT TWISTED BRANDED FOR LIFE

NO HAND TO HOLD
NO SANCTUARY FROM FEARS
SURRENDERED GUIDANCE
SHREDDED TEARS
EMPTY FACE SURROUND ME LIKE
THE MEMORIES OF THE LIFE I USED TO KNOW

FIRST AND LAST

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS / MATHEW FERGUSON / GARETH HUGHES

PENNED MORE SONGS THAN I CARE TO MENTION
YOU MIGHT’VE HEARD A FEW ON THE RADIO WAY BACK WHEN
THIS ALL MADE MORE SENSE
PLAYED MORE BARS THAN I CAN REMEMBER
YOU’RE PROBABLY THINKIN’ I SHOULD SPEND A LOT LESS TIME IN THEM
BUT IN MY DEFENCE

I ALWAYS SAID IT CAME FIRST
BUT THAT WASN’T THE WORST
I SHOULD’VE HAVE LEARNT FROM THE PAST
BUT THEN YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE ASKED
IT COMES FIRST SECOND THIRD AND LAST

LOST MORE FRIENDS THAN IT’S WORTH ADMITTING
I KNOW I MISSED YOUR BIRTHDAYS WEDDINGS PARTIES EVERYTHING
BUT I WANTED TO GO
PAID MORE OUT THAN I’LL EVER PULL IN
IN TIME AND MONEY SPENT THAT I’LL NEVER GET BACK AGAIN
BUT IT’S ON WITH THE SHOW

(REPEAT CHORUS)

AND WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG I’LL TELL MYSELF I DID MY BEST AND
PUT IT IN A SONG SO YOU CAN SING ALONG

I ONLY WASTED MY YOUTH BUT THAT WASN’T THE TRUTH
WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKED I DIDN’T HEAR ‘COS I ROCKED
(REPEAT CHORUS)
FOURTH FIFTH SIX SEVENTH AND LAST

POOR MIDDLE CLASS WHITE BOY BLUES

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

AIN’T NEVER BEEN DOWN TO THE DELTA
NEVER STOOD AT NO CROSSROADS BEFORE
AIN’T NEVER BEEN DOWN TO THE DELTA
NEVER STOOD AT NO CROSS ROADS BEFORE
I’M JUST A POOR MIDDLE CLASS WHITEBOY
TRYING TO PRETEND I’M SOMETHING MORE

AIN’T NEVER HEARD MY TRAIN COMIN’
AIN’T NEVER BEEN NO RAMBLIN’ MAN
AIN’T NEVER HEARD MY TRAIN COMIN’
AIN’T NEVER BEEN NO RAMBLIN’ MAN
I’M JUST A POOR MIDDLE CLASS WHITE BOY
STRUMMING THESE STRINGS THE BEST I CAN

ANOTHER DAY LIKE THIS

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

YESTERDAY ANOTHER BEATLE DIED
FEEL LIKE YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE WHO CRIED
WAS IT JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE OR RINGO?
IS THERE ANYONE LEFT TO DECIDE?

SAT AND LISTENED TO YOUR FAVOURITE SONG
DIDN’T REALISE IT WAS SO LONG
SECOND VERSE YOU GET DISTRACTED
HARD TO FOCUS WITH THE TV ON
THE MOMENT IS GONE

SO YOU DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE A SCENE
‘TIL YOU READ IT IN A MAGAZINE
AND YOU DIDN’T REALLY WANT TO KNOW
‘TIL YOU HEARD IT ON THE RADIO
WELL IF THAT’S WHAT YOU GOT TO DO
JUST TO FEEL LIKE YOU CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
WELL I GUESS THAT IGNORANCE IS BLISS
BUT THERE’LL NEVER BE ANOTHER DAY LIKE THIS

NOW ANOTHER WILSON’S PASSED ALONG
THOSE BOYS FROM THE BEACH SURE HAD SOME SONGS
DID YOU USED TO GRAB YOUR SIX STRING
PUT ON PET SOUNDS TRY TO PLAY ALONG?
SOMETHING IS WRONG

TOO HIGHLY STRUNG

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

Here we come to save the day
Waiting on the one that got away
Ain’t no welcoming parade
Make good on the promised we made
Yeah yeah yeah

What have we become?
Manic marionettes
Too highly strung
Heroes left unsung
We were superhuman
When we were young
Now we’ve become
Too highly strung

Here we come to save the day
Would you have it any other way?
Still we do the best we can
Ain’t no justice for the working man
No no no

WHO WILL SAVE US NOW?

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS / MATHEW FERGUSON / GARETH HUGHES

HEY LOST ANOTHER BATTLE YESTERDAY
JUST ANOTHER CASUALTY OF WAR TODAY
WAITING FOR THE CAVALRY TO COME
(BUT THERE’S NO-ONE)
TONIGHT OUTNUMBERED AND OUTGUNNED IN THIS FIGHT
UNDER SIEGE AND NOW SURROUNDED ON ALL SIDES
BARRICADES AND BATTLEMENTS DESTROYED
PRAYING FOR A HERO

SUPERSONIC SAVIOUR FROM THE SKIES
TO MAKE A DARING RESCUE AND SAVE YOU FROM YOUR LIFE
DANGEROUS DEFENDER IN DISGUISE
HOPING FOR A HERO
THERE’S GOT TO BE SOMEONE OUT THERE

WHO’LL SAVE US NOW AS WE WATCH THE MIGHTY FALL
I DON’T KNOW HOW WE’RE THE ONES LEFT STANDING TALL
WHO’LL SAVE US NOW AS WE WATCH THE MIGHTY FALL
I DON’T KNOW HOW WE’RE CAN EVEN STAND AT ALL

HEY IN YOUR FALLOUT SHELTER FOR TODAY
SOMEWHERE OVERHEAD THEY’RE SCREAMING BOMBS AWAY
SHIVER AS THE SHELLSHOCK TAKES A HOLD
WAITING FOR A HERO

WHEN IN ROME

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS / MATHEW FERGUSON / GARETH HUGHES

VERSE 1:

AS WE WALK THESE ANCIENT STREETS
THAT HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME
HISTORY BENEATH OUR FEET
I WANT THIS FOR YOU AND I

RELEASE 1:

PANTHEON WHERE GODS WERE PRAISED
VATICAN WHERE HOPES ARE RAISED

CHORUS:

IF YOU ARE THE PILLARS OF HOPE
THEN I AM DEVOTION’S ARCHES
AND ON THESE WE BUILD OUR HOME
WE REMEMBER WHEN IN ROME

VERSE 2:

SO WE CLIMB THE SPANISH STEPS
WATER FLOWS FROM THE TREVI
WHERE THE PAST AND PRESENT MEET
WE CAN BATHE IN THIS BEAUTY

RELEASE 2:

COLISEUM BATTLES FOUGHT
ATHENEUM WARS OF THOUGHT

THE SCENE

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS / MATHEW FERGUSON / GARETH HUGHES

GET THE GREASEPAINT ON NOW TIME TO MAKE BELIEVE AGAIN
JUST PRETEND
WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DOWN I KNOW THAT I WON’T LOSE MY GRIP
ON THE SCRIPT
I KNOW ALL MY LINES I KNOW WHERE I HAVE TO STAND
I’M IN COMMAND

WHEN IT’S ALL A WRAP I DON’T KNOW HOW TO ACT

ONE MAN SHOW OUT THERE FLASHES EVERYWHERE
DOES THIS MEAN I’VE MADE THE SCENE?
A FREAKSHOW OUT THERE PEOPLE STOP AND STARE
DOES THIS MEAN I’VE LOST MY SHEEN?

BACK ON STAGE AGAIN WITH DIRECTOR CAST AND CREW
TIME FOR TAKE TWO
AS I HIT MY MARK CURTAIN RAISES UP ABOVE
TO PRAISE AND LOVE
AND THE CROWD GOES WILD I’M CAPTURED FRAME BY FRAME
OR TRAPPED BY FAME

WHEN THEY CLOSE THE SET I GET SO UPSET

WHEN THE CREDITS ROLL FREEDOM TAKES IT TOLL

OH WELL

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS / MATHEW FERGUSON / GARETH HUGHES

I’ve been following the chart
As I suffer for my art
Comfort cold in her embrace
As another takes my place

Now my moment in the sun
Is shining on another one
Shiver in my winter’s cold
Tragic story left untold

Oh well They say the world’s my oyster
But I can’t taste it
Oh well Salute the flag they hoist up
‘cos I can’t raise it

Alter ego brave and brash
Writing cheques that I can’t cash
When of hope there is a glimmer
Tunnel’s light keeps growing dimmer

I shed the tears of ten years

BIG APPETITE

Written By: CHRIS GIBBS

FINGERS IN THE PIE
SOMETHING WENT AWRY
ONE BAD APPLE SPOILS THE BARREL
BIGGER FISH TO FRY

VERSE 2:

BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD
RUMOUR MILL HAS SPREAD
LEAN AND MEAN AND KEEN AS MUSTARD
EGO OVERFED

CHORUS:

BITTER FRUIT WILL FALL BEFORE THE RIPE
AND YOU COULDN’T LIVE UP TO THE HYPE
FROM THE SIZE AND THE MIGHT
OF THE HAND THAT YOU BITE
BOY YOU MUST HAVE A BIG APPETITE

VERSE 3:

MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW
ALL YOU SEEM TO DO
MAYBE YOU COULD SIMMER DOWN
SO WE CAN WATCH YOU STEW

VERSE FOUR:

SOMETHING THAT YOU ATE
TOO MUCH ON YOUR PLATE
BITTER PILL TOO HARD TO SWALLOW
WITH THOSE SOUR GRAPES

CHORUS / LEAD BREAK

VERSE 5:

GOT YOUR JUST DESSERTS
TRUTH IT REALLY HURTS
HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO YOU’RE
CHOKING ON YOUR WORDS

DOUBLE CHORUS

BOY YOU MUST HAVE A BIG APPETITE (X3)
