Biography

Dublin man Chris Kavanagh was born and reared on Irish music and has been singing Irish folk songs since he was three years old. He learned by ear to play piano, and played different styles of music in various bands as a teenager.
His passion for Irish music inspired him to form the successful band "Legend of Luke Kelly", a tribute to the late great singer of "The Dubliners".
Multi instrumentalist Chris began writing original material six years ago, and his first single release, entitled "Paddy's Day" (co-written by Hilary Kavanagh) is available on iTunes and has been causing quite a stir on Youtube! The song was written to reflect the current political climate in Ireland, and it's Dublin wit and lively tune are sure to get your feet tapping no matter where you are from.
His first album is now available and is a perfect blend of good old fashioned Irish folk, but with a new and original flavour, the likes of which hasn't been heard in an original Irish album for decades.
According to their Facebook biography: "Described by many as the best folk band in Ireland right now, it is no wonder that they have been sought after all over the country and abroad. Joe Finn (whistles and uilleann pipes), Gavin Doyle (Bass guitar, backing vocals) and Graham Doyle (acoustic guitar and backing vocals) along with Chris (5-string banjo)complete the lineup.
The band have traveled abroad to Australia, the UK and parts of central Europe on their tours.Chris has recently recorded an album of original, new, self-penned Irish folk recordings.

Lyrics

Leaving Pennsylvania

Written By: Chris Kavanagh/Graham Doyle

1st verse

The soft, gentle sway of the ship tells me,
That we've made our way out of the storm,
hopeful I glance out across the sea,
But I know that we're still far from home.

There's nothing but water between you and me,
I had to leave you for a chance to be free
and I still see your sweet face when I close my eyes
and have to be near you again

Chrous :

And I'm leaving the derrick behind,
with soft orange sunsets instilled in my mind,
And I'll never leave you again,
This promise I'll keep till the day that I die
for you are my heart and my home,
We've waited so long for this moment to come

2nd Verse

I Left Ireland bound for Pennsylvania,
It seems such a long time ago,
You know that Iwanted to stay with you
but "there's money in oil don't you know?".

The letters I wrote you were straight from the heart,
The money I sent will give us a fresh start
and I'm coming back home to the place I love
to be with my lady again

Chorus:

and I'm leaving the derrick behind,
with soft orange sunsets instilled in my mind,
And I'll never leave you again,
This promise I'll keep till the day that I die
for you are my heart and my home,
We've waited so long for this moment to come

solo

There's nothing but water between you and me,
I had to leave you for a chance to be free.
and I still see your sweet face when I close my eyes
and have to be near you again

Chorus:

so I'm leaving the derrick behind,
with soft orange sunsets instilled in my mind,
And I'll never leave you again,
This promise I'll keep till the day that I die.
for you are my heart and my home,
We've waited so long for this moment to come

Average Man

Written By: Chris Kavanagh/Hilary Kavanagh

Oh the day begins with lonliness and thoughts that crowd my head
And making sure to get out of the right side of the bed
yet another morning ritual again to help me start the day
and I fool myself to thinking I'm ok ...I'm ok

I've got no desire to go outside but long to see her smile
so I try to leave my thoughts behind and see her for a while
Oh but I'm just checking making sure that everythings in place
and I fight this feeling just to see her face

(chorus)
I look into her eyes all my troubles melt away
I am just an average man on just an average day
I try to tell her how I feel but fear comes rushing in
so I make another mental note to try and start again

I've been feeling so frustrated for I've left it all unsaid
but I'm scared that I could lose her if she knows whats in my head
so I try to act like nothings wrong with me as worry plagues my mind
and I know a friend like her is hard to find

Well tomorrow is another day to make a brand new start
and I hope to bridge the gap between my head and my poor heart
so I'll face whatever comes my way or try to anyhow
for the moment I'm just going to deal with now

(chorus)
I look into her eyes all my troubles melt away
for I am just an average man on just an average day
I try to tell her how I feel but fear comes rushing in
so I make another mental note to try and start again
