Bio

Dayton, Ohio, artist Chris McCoy defines his band’s music as a hybrid of pop and americana soul. This makes for songs that melodically encompass the entire spectrum of sound and human emotion. “Seeing McCoy on stage, alternately confessional and distant…McCoy’s music is so soulful and heart wrenching…so amazing, so emotional.”
-Sara Farr, Dayton Daily News

He is currently busy recording and producing music for his debut full-length album that is set for release in the late fall of 2001. There are plans for a supporting tour of intimate venues to follow in the Midwest and along the East Coast of the United States.

Although McCoy has performed most of his life in solo, acoustic fashion, over the last two years he has assembled a stellar backing band consisting of some of Dayton’s most talented musicians. The group is made up of drummer Frank Woods, bassist Marc Betts, and pianist Rhonda Everitt. “Even though the band is simply known as ‘Chris McCoy’ (“So I can never be kicked out of the band,” McCoy jokes), the group dynamic adds a dimension that can’t be ignored.” -Melissa Fowler-Presock, Impact Weekly

McCoy has recently released an independent four song EP titled, June Ten. The record features songs captured live from a candle-lit, in-studio performance and is made up of rare McCoy numbers like, “99 9/10” and “You Will Be The One,” as well as, inspired renditions of set staples, such as “Memphis” and “Goodnight.” “His four-song debut showcases McCoy in a solo setting...’Goodnight’ is...dripping in a sensuality that Marvin Gaye would've coveted.”
-Tony Peters, Impact Weekly

McCoy, whose rich, world-weary falsetto and sultry musical stylings are often compared to the late Jeff Buckley, has undoubtedly struck a chord within the industry. The band has shared the stage with many of Dayton’s highest profile local acts, as well as, such diverse national acts as Richard Buckner, Damien Jurado, The Ass Pony’s, Howlin’ Maggie and Nil Lara. McCoy’s music has also received regular airplay on many college radio stations, as well as, commercial radio, most notably WOXY 97X in Cincinnati and WWCD CD101 in Columbus.

So, keep your eyes and ears open this fall for the debut LP from Chris McCoy and the tour to follow. And for now, don’t hesitate to get a copy of the new Chris McCoy EP, simply titled, June Ten. It will be available through the official website, http://chrismccoy.net, and at all live performances. We hope to bring our little piece of Dayton to your hometown very soon!!

"Seeing Chris (McCoy) play is an out-of-body experience. He creates such beautiful and vivid dreamscapes with his vocals and his lyrics transport you to another time and place. I've never left a show feeling disappointed or unaffected," -Jessica Faller, Bipolar Productions, Columbus, OH.
