Chris Mitchell

 Nashville, Tennessee, USA
BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Chris Mitchell has one of the best voices you will ever hear. Period. His tones and phrasing are sophisticated and unique. He has the kind of voice that is in a class with the greats. The arrangements organic and rich. If you like Marvin Gaye, Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder, or Al Green, check Chris out.

Biography

Chris Mitchell loves to sing and is almost always doing what he loves. Spend more than a few minutes with him and you will be serenaded with verses, choruses, and instrumental breaks real and imagined, sung, hummed, scatted, and tapped. It could be annoying, but he does it well.

The Akron, Ohio native began studying violin and singing in grade school. He wrote his first song in sixth grade. Then followed years of voice lessons, twelve bands, one orchestra, two music schools, and countless nights singing, dancing, producing and entertaining.

In the late 1990’s, Nashville’s party scene flocked to see what Chris would do next in his band The Collection, a spectacle that included hot pants, feather boas, choir robes, and a nonstop funky dance groove. Outrageousness ruled.

Chris has also focused on helping other artists in finding places and venues to play. In 2005 he created “Chris Mitchell Presents” a monthly event that spawned the start of several successful Nashville artists.

His latest release, Sing is a deeply personal journey collection of R&B, pop, and rock songs borne from a broken soul on a journey back into the light and hopefulness of today.

Lyrics

I Will Love Again

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

It’s raining again today
And I don’t know what to do
There’s dust on my piano and I can’t stop thinking about you
And I wonder about tomorrow, after I’ve felt this pain
If I let go of all my sorrow will anything remain here in me

I’ve been through this before
And I know the sadness ends
And I have faith in my heart that the world still turns and I will love again

I hear the memories calling
From someplace else in time
I wish that I could hold you I wish you were still mine
I know if I resist this that you will fade away
And my heart will reborn into another day free

I’ve been through this before
And I know the sadness ends
And I have faith in my heart that the world still turns and I will love again

There were days that I felt like dying
But somehow I always came around
I got down to the ground
And I got used to the sound and I will love again

I’ve been through this before
And I know the sadness ends
And I have faith in my heart that the world still turns and I will love again

All The Things You Are

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Music, SESAC)

You make me crazy
You make me sorry for my life
You make me lonely
You make me wish that I could die
You make me happy
You make me pause and wonder why
You make me angry
You take away my will

And all the things you are to me are secrets I hold deep inside my heart
Before you came I couldn’t feel and now I feel like I’m falling apart

You’re condescending
You make me feel like I’m a boy
You’re unrelenting
You play my heart like it’s’ a toy
It’s never ending
The wicked games that you employ
And still I’m bending
Because you’re beautiful

And all the things you are to me are secrets I hold deep inside my heart
Before you came I couldn’t feel and now I feel like I’m falling apart

You take my heart and tear it up
You take my time, you can’t get enough
You take the easy things, and make them rough
And still I’m bending, still I’m bending cuz your beautiful…

And all the things you are to me are secrets I hold deep inside my heart
Before you came I couldn’t feel and now I feel like I’m falling apart

You take my heart and tear it up
You take my time, you can’t get enough
You take the easy things, and make them rough
And still I’m bending, still I’m bending cuz your beautiful…

Love Somebody

Written By: Chris Mitchell, Jody Nardone (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC, Joseph G Nardone BMI)

Trying hard to find out what this life is all about
Trying hard to make it through the in’s and through the out’s
Trying not to sell my soul for 5 seconds of fame
I try to keep on going when all I can feel is pain

Try to wear a smile and keep my frown up on the shelf
Trying hard to go the extra mile and bless somebody else
Try to be somebody for somebody else but me
I try to give away freely what’s been given unto me

It’s time to love somebody
Lift away the chains and set them free
Love somebody
Wherever there’s a need is where I’ve got to be
It’s time to love somebody
Give it away, get the ball rollin’ today’s the day
To be happy, joyous, and free

I never let nobody ‘round me tell me how to roll
I beat ya there and I didn’t care if I cheated ya for the gold
But now I know why mama said to do as I was told
She was only trying to help me not to die before I’m old

Tryin’ to get my mind around the meaning of it all
I’m Tryin’ to tip the balance so a few less men will fall
Tryin’ hard to hear my maker when he speaks to me
I’m Tryin’ hard to have a little faith so I can be…

Someone who…
Love’s somebody
Lift away the chains and set them free
Love somebody
Wherever there’s a need is where I’ve got to be
It’s time to love somebody
Give it away, get the ball rollin’ today’s the day
To be happy, joyous, and free

Now when I’m happy
When I’m sad
When I’m angry
When I’m glad
Ooh when I’m crazy, and can’t hardly cope
That’s when I need to try and give my brother hope
Everyday
All the time
If you ain’t got none you can take a piece of mine
Every hour
Every minute
I’ve got to find a way to share the blessing in it
Oh Lord I’ve got to…

Love somebody
Lift away the chains and set them free
Love somebody
Wherever there’s a need is where I’ve got to be
It’s time to love somebody
Give it away, get the ball rollin’ today’s the day
To be happy, joyous, and free

Unconcerned

Written By: Chris Mitchell, Aaron Doyka (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

No current here, no changing of the wind
No hunger pains affect the space I’m in
Complacency, I slowly fell asleep
And nothingness, nothingness puts my soul at ease

It’s cool and dull and grey
I fall away, I’m unconcerned
I’m high and low and numb
I’m stricken dumb, And nothing is learned
I’m unconcerned

I’m please to be so alone
All on my own
No passersby no voices on the phone
And days slip away again
And here I am, my only friend after all
My only friend after all

It’s cool and dull and grey
I fall away, I’m unconcerned
I’m high and low and numb
I’m stricken dumb, And nothing is learned
I’m unconcerned

Help me I’m falling the darkness is calling me down
I don’t know what to do
I’m lost in a cycle of blissful denial I’m endlessly playing the fool…

It’s cool and dull and grey
I fall away, I’m unconcerned
I’m high and low and numb
I’m stricken dumb, And nothing is learned
I’m unconcerned

Gravity

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

I can feel the day pulling me down
And it makes me want to cry, but I can’t make a sound
There’s nothing here but silence, there’s nothing makes a sound
I think that I’ll surrender now

And the sky is fallin’
The earth is callin’
I’m coming down
Where’s the ground?

Gravity, pullin’ me
Gravity, taking me
No way to fight, and I’m just falling
Gravity, pullin’ me
Longevity avoiding me
No way to fight, and I’m just falling
Down, down, down

I remember flying, soaring through the air
I think that I felt something there
I think that for a moment I thought that I could fly
I think that maybe once I cared

And the sky is fallin’
The earth is callin’
I’m coming down
Where’s the ground?

Gravity, pullin’ me
Gravity, taking me
No way to fight, and I’m just falling
Gravity, pullin’ me
Longevity avoiding me
No way to fight and I’m just falling

Down to the core, underneath my pores
Erasing the someone I used to be
I surrender, I like this better
Slipping away, away

And the sky is fallin’
The earth is callin’
I’m coming down
Where’s the ground?

Gravity, pullin’ me
Gravity, taking me
No way to fight, and I’m just falling
Gravity, pullin’ me
Longevity avoiding me
No way to fight and I’m just falling
Down, down, down

Sing

Written By: Chris Mitchell, Jody Nardone (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC, Joseph G Nardone BMI)

I’m so glad I’m so glad I’m so glad
I got the chance to know ya
I’m so glad I’m so glad I’m so glad
I got the chance to show ya
How much you mean to me
One minute with you can set me free from anything
And you make me wanna, you make me wanna, you make me wanna

You make me wanna
Sing, sing, sing, sing (about it)
Sing, sing, sing, uh huh…..

I’m so glad I’m so glad I’m so glad
I got the chance to testify, oh yes I am
Of how you led me through the slaughter
Of how you gave me back my life
Oh Lord you rescued me When I was blind and cold and weak
Your love was waiting for me… And you make me wanna

You make me wanna
Sing, sing, sing, sing (about it)
Sing, sing, uh huh…..

I sing because I’m happy
And I sing because I’m free
God’s eye I son the sparrow, and I know he’s watching over me…
You make me want to

You make me wanna
Sing, sing, sing, sing (about it)
Sing, sing, sing, uh huh…..

Best Of Intentions

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

Here, where nothing’s what it seems
We’re living for our dreams
And just a single breeze could blow us all apart
And here, there’s something inside you
There’s something inside me
Look and you will see I had the best of

Best of intentions
Right here from the start
And I’d go anywhere with you baby
Best of intentions
Please don’t break my heart
I had the best of intentions

Oh and here, where everything is joy or luck
It’s not enough, for you to wonder how I feel
And here, I’m gonna show you exactly how I feel
I had the best of

Best of intentions
Right here from the start
And I’d go anywhere with you baby
Best of intentions
Please don’t break my heart
I had the best of intentions

Grace

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

Sitting in the dark, wrestling with my heart
Wondering if I have even grown
Seeds that I have sown, stones that I have thrown
All are coming back to me

Casting shadows on my soul, am I half or am I whole
And will I ever learn to give enough
Is there that much love?
To save a man like me
From all that I have come to be?

Grace
I need Grace

I fill up all my space, with things that take the place
Of everything I wish that I could be
I fight serenity
And lose myself in me
I fall apart instinctively

Grace
I need Grace

Caught in the ebb and flow of all the things I can’t control
Giving in to thoughts just like a madman
Waves of madness
Waves of sadness
Waves of pain
I’m at the breaking point again
And in this moment there is only Grace

Releasing my control
I’m letting myself go
And in there flows a peace that fills my soul
Through the pain I’ve grown
I know I’m not alone
How sweet it is to know…

Grace, I know Grace

What True Love Is Like

Written By: Chris Mitchell (2010 Nickelbug Songs, SESAC)

Fall is upon me and I’m feeling empty
Summer is dying and fading away
Soon winter will wrap her cold arms around me
And make me remember my pain
Your love was brief like a storm
You left me tired and worn
You left me needing to see you again

While I was watching it all fell apart on me and now I know what true love is like
Exquisite and brutal you ripped the heart out of me and now I know what true love is like
What true love is like

So many summer’s I’ve left behind me
And each one deceived me, again and again
Like a fool I remain here, following blindly
A heart that never will mend
I remain bound to my youth
I still am waiting for proof
I still am hoping to see you again

While I was watching it all fell apart on me and now I know what true love’s about
Beautifully execute every last part of me and now I know what true love’s about
What true love’s about

While I was watching it all fell apart on me and now I know what true love is like
Exquisite and brutal you ripped the heart out of me and now I know what true love is like
What true love is like
