"Review"

Singer/songwriter Chris Moynihan has just released an ep called North Country Blues. Like it's author, the 5 song set is an enigma. While New England born Moynihan has embraced the great Northeast folk tradition with equal parts Tom Rush and Bill Morrissey, he also must have taken a few trips down to the New Jersey seacoast for there is also a bit of the bard of Asbury Park Bruce Springsteen evident here. Not to say in any way that this is derivative but more often breaking new ground. My favorite track, "Pennies" could have easily been an "illegal smile" era John Prine outtake. Again, this is not derivative but more a new twist on an old tradition. Tradition is what folk music is all about whether it maligns it or embraces it. The material is extremely well written, performed and recorded with subtle shadings of backround instruments that only serve to compliment this very listenable ep. In efforts of full disclosure, I am a friend of Chris' but also more importantly a fan.

"Chris"

CHRIS MOYNIHAN – North Country Blues

The lyrics feel very worn and well loved almost like Chris paints new pictures using an old, favorite paintbrush. These are songs you can sing along with as you roll down a dirt road with your arm resting in the open window. These characters are ones you have heard about before but done with a lot of grace and beauty. If Guy Clark and Lucinda Williams had a second cousin… I think his name would be Chris Moynihan.

"Hays Entertainment review"

Chris Moynihan is unquestionably one of the best and most prolific songwriters on todays circuit. His songs have a way of enveloping the listener into a cleverly penned story, delivered with a passion that is seldom found these days. I book multitudes of songwriters and performers, but Chris rises to the top of the ladder time and time again. Keep a close eye (and ear) out for Chris, and if he is performing near you, run don't walk, straight to the front of the stage!

Bio

To be a story teller, you make people want to sit in a smokey bar and listen to your tale. You make people hold their beers and wait to take a sip becaues they don't want to miss a word. You make them laugh because life can be funny, and you make them cry because life can be sad.

Chris Moynihan is a story teller. With his harmonica and guitar Chris will take you on a journey.

A student of such famed troubadours as John Prine and Steve Earle, Moynihan has worked tirelessly on learning the craftsmanship of writing and performing songs that provide a voice for blue collar America.

Now based out of Nashville, Moynihan clings to his New England roots and utilizes the characters he has met along his journey as the foundation for the stories he tells.

Through the skills that he has honed in the coffee shops, bars, and listening rooms that litter both the North and Southeast, his sincerity becomes evident with every song. You end up feeling everything that he feels. You can't help it.
