Biography

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Portland, Oregon, Chris Seal brings the barn stomping soul of the Southeastern United States to the saturated sensitivity of the Pacific Northwest. He first picked up a guitar and started learning Led Zeppelin and Grateful Dead songs at the age of 13. He began playing in punk rock bands in high school and started folk-singing in 2001. Chris recently moved to Nashville, TN after living in two mountain towns for 8 years, first in the German Alps, then in Lake Tahoe, CA. Most recently he played his original songs in the bluegrass band BISON, and the rock band Pleasure Bonus, as well as other solo and collaborative projects. Music that has influenced him is many and varied, from Hank Williams to Kool Keith to Fleet Foxes to Wilco to The Velvet Underground to Dead Kennedys to SWANS to The Stooges to Jimi Hendrix to Throbbing Gristle and many more. Rather than directly emulating the sounds of his influences, he lets his deep appreciation for the music he loves seep into himself, then writes and plays from this feeling. Chris has also been experimenting with sounds and producing his own recordings as well as collaborating with others since the early 1990's. He has shared a stage with The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Elvin Bishop, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Dead Winter Carpenters, The Trespassers, Danny Barnes, Bipolar Ben & The Touchers, among others. He has collaborated with Jerry Blue, Benjamin Boyce, Andy Hatch, Raybob Bowman, Dean Rimmer, Nate Alcorn, Oscar Azevedo, Matt McKenzie and many others.

Beginning & End

Written By: Chris Seal

Beginning & End by Chris Seal

When the sweet crisp spring air smells like oak and honey
When the sun sets just a little later every day
When life it breeds and everything just bleeds
I'll see you in the sun and we'll be free

When everything is right, baby try as we might,
We can't deny what's meant or given for our happiness
Someday beneath the sun, our faces glowing from the heat
We'll begin to understand this mystery

And all my life I've waited for ya
And all these years keep drifting by
And all these miles I've walked through the world now
Sometimes I can't help but cry, cry, cry
Sometimes I can't help but cry

When all that once was wrong is turned upside its head
When all the darkness is awash with light
When nothing is forever and everything is now
Your eyes will show me something I believe

And all my life I've waited for ya
And all these years keep drifting by
And all these miles I've walked through the world now
Sometimes I can't help but cry, cry, cry
Sometimes I can't help but cry

When the life that I lived is far behind me
When time has started over again
We'll breathe mountain air so sweet and clean we won't
care at all
That we're lost, baby, oh so lost

And all my life I've waited for ya
And all these years keep drifting by
And all these miles I've walked through the world now
Sometimes I can't help but cry, cry, cry
Sometimes I can't help but cry, cry, cry
Sometimes I can't help but cry, cry, cry, cry, cry
Sometimes I can't help but cry

Ticket For The Night Train

Ticket For The Night Train by Chris Seal

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to take this ride alone
Cause there ain't nothin' left here for me
Believe it's time I'm headed home

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to leave this town tonight
And I don't care how fast it's goin'
Gonna look it straight in it's bright eye

Hidin' out inside a lonely place in my mind
Where others' faces just seem to accuse
Been this way ever since before the end of time
One hand abuses, the other is abused

Can't you see it's time to face the music?
And don't you know I know what I will lose?
What's the use of life if you can't use it?
I hear a call I don't want to refuse

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to take this ride alone
Cause there ain't nothin' left here for me
Believe it's time I'm headed home

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to leave this town tonight
And I don't care how fast it's goin'
Gonna look it straight in it's bright eye

Green grass on a mountain pass in the cool cool wind
California sunshine in the wings
These things got no meaning 'less they're movin'
Still, the water flows in the spring

Today I made biggest decision
Gonna leave this pain behind
Cause I don't need nothin' inside it
And it's always weighin' on my mind

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to take this ride alone
Cause there ain't nothin' left here for me
Believe it's time I'm headed home

Got a ticket for the night train
Got to leave this town tonight
And I don't care how fast it's goin'
Gonna look it straight in it's bright eye

Here & Gone Again

Written By: Chris Seal

Here & Gone Again by Chris Seal

Well I was born in New Orleans
When the wind moans, then the sea bleeds
I live my life as I please
I paid some dues, there's always more fees

Cause I'm here, and I'm gone
Remember life ain't long
Oh yeah
That's right

I took a ride to Portland town
Where the sky hides behind the clouds
I spent my time tryin' to get out
Out of my mind, out of my doubt

Cause I'm here, and I'm gone
Remember life ain't long
Oh yeah
That's right

Well I took time to know myself
Rather be kind, than seek out wealth
I read the signs, I seek the depths
Can't put my heart up on no shelf

Cause I'm here, and I'm gone
Remember life ain't long
Oh yeah
That's right
