Chris Skillz is an up an coming rapper based in Delaware who is a refreshing new voice in hip hop. This mixtape isn’t perfect, but I’ve still been bumping it all morning because Chris Skillz is the kind of emcee whose lyrics you can actually feel, unlike so many emcees today who just put shit together that rhymes in order to have something that’ll fit nicely over a beat.

Very rarely do I listen to a mixtape I enjoy. Chris Skillz “Mind Of A Genius” is one that I enjoyed from first track to last track. The jazzy beats and thoughtful rhymes brought me back to the days of Pete Rock And CL Smooth or Gangstarr. Rather than glamorize violence on the street. Chris Skillz’ lyrics analyze crime and show its negative affects. Skillz just signed with Reggie Hudson’s State City Music and has a very bright future. - The Urban Daily

Born Christopher Daniel Corbett on July 10th in Florida, this emcee quickly transitioned to Dover, DE and was appropriately given the name Chris Skillzfor his lyrical prowess. Introduced to music at an early age by his older brother, Chris gravitated towards hip hop in the early 90's, listening to artists such as Nas, Pete Rock, Naughty By Nature, EPMD and many more.
Chris' father was a talented basketball player in the NY area, so naturally he had aspirations of becoming an NBA star. But that dream quickly faded as his love for hip hop grew. After purchasing MobbDeep The Infamous and Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt, Chris was dead set on taking his brand of music to the next level but keeping the "Golden Age" essence of hip hop.
In 2010, Chris released Mind of A Genius which drew notoriety from several media outlets. However it was in 2011 when Chris signed to independent record label, State City Music and released Just Another Morning, that he made a real impact on the game. Marrying rhymes of real struggle and true situations with jazzy beats, Chris gave his mixtapea real nostalgic feel.
Chris Skillz is now preparing to take his brand of music beyond expectations of a small town wonder.
