"'Harder Beat' CD Review"

After hearing this debut release from Fort Worth Texas own “Blue Eyed Son” I must say this group impressed me with what is truly great new rock n’ roll music. First thing that sets apart this group from the heard of most other bands is the dual singing/songwriting of Chris Swicegood (24) and Jackson Yandell (23). “Take me Away” and “Place in Time” both transitioned from rock to jive mid way proving to me there’s plenty of southern vibe in their blood. I heard plenty of classic influence from Pink Floyd in their song “Wonder” and the scream of Joe Cocker can be found in “Free”. Even the weight of Alice in Chains can be found in “The Wind” and Lenny Kravitz “funk all” of “Victory’s” opening riff gives something for everybody. Damn these guys can play. Jackson Yandell is one of the few powerhouse drummers who John Bonham himself would probably claim as his own illegitimate love child. Swicegood and Varnadore have such a strong chemistry in their guitar work that ZZ Top might feel that there finally is a Texas trio that is following their lead after all these years. Hell their cutting sound might prompt Billy and Dusty to trim their beards! Clearly there’s much more that needs come from these Texas boys- keep it coming BES- the music world needs more bands like you guys.

Bio

I've been a musican writing music playing guitar and piano and singing since I was 15. I've played in various bands over the years from high school through college and graduate school. Growing up in Fort Worth TX, I always tried and hoped to one day perform SXSW- and I'm really glad I haven't yet because since moving to NY to assemble my new band and cut my debut album, I believe the time is now more than ever for me to come back down south. My music combines singer/songwriter elements, as well as what I grew up on- classic rock: Beatles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Stones- with more modern Stereophonics, Black Crowes, Counting Crows and Lenny Kravitz style hooks. My band is more diverse than most in that my wifes sings amazing harmonies as well as is featured on some old school James Brown and other bluesy/jazz/motown solos. We all adore improvising like Zeppelin use to- but still can stick to a single off a record- and believe in performance in an age where most musicians can't really play live because of a little thing called pro-tools. We record everything onto tape first in the studio- more musicians need to see if they can't do what all the 60's groups had to...no autotune back then.

Recently we've debut "Lila" my first solo CD and are to release "evermore" next spring and have already cut a few songs so far.
