"Christian Bonner Interview"

Christian Bonner Toronto
How did the project come into existence? = I've been writing and performing for more than tens years now, but only recently as a solo artist. I made the change from band member to solo artist because I wanted to sing my own songs myself.
Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? = There are five members of the band:
James MacDonald - Guitar
Adrian Osmar - Guitar
Jordan Quinn - Bass
Robert Parker - Drums
Jenny Ma - Keyboards
The core of the band has been friends for some time, the rest are long time music students.
How would you describe your sound/genre? = My sound is deeply rooted in American Rhythm and Blues, and the English interpretation of it from the late 60's onward. The genre is decidedly rock and roll.
What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = Jenny Ma - studied Ethnomusicology and music theory, and Jordan Quinn is currently in his seventh year of studying music at York University. Everyone else has at least ten years of experience: Adrian Osmar has been in many cover bands, James MacDonald has been a singer songwriter and appeared in many original bands, while Robert Parker and I have written, performed and recorded together for the past 7 years.
Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = I am currently producing my own material, but I am on the lookout for an appropriate producer to work with.
Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = When I was 14 I went to see the Rolling Stones. It was the first concert I'd ever been to and when I saw Keith Richards stand over me and lean into the intro to "Honky Tonk Women" I knew that music was what I wanted to do with my life and they have forever been my biggest influence in writing and arrangements . Everyone in the band appreciates the musical contributions of the Stones and we tend to use them as the 'Rosetta stone' of rock and roll to decode the music that influenced them.
What advice would you give to others starting out? = Learn as much about writing and and arrangement as possible, find out what your best talents are and learn about music publishing and licensing.
Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Christian-Bonner/186821200874 , www.christianbonnermusic.com
If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = Being given the chance to play with any of my heroes (The Stones, David Bowie, AC/DC, The Who, etc) would be a spectacular thrill, just as the opportunity to play anywhere in the world always is.
What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = We're a very new band so we don't really have any wild stories yet, but for me running a band and working with people like I've got is about the best life has to offer. There's always an opportunity to learn something new form great players and to pass on something you've learned. It's a challenge to balance the musical discipline and the social aspects and there are definite struggles that come with running a band, but when you've put in the time and get to the stage it's quite worth it.
Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = I'm currently working on a teaser EP to reveal some material from my upcoming album.
Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = In five years I'd like to be working a lot, have a few records out and selling reasonably well, a tour or two would be nice, and having a few songs in film or television couldn't hurt. - AJ & DBS Corporation
