"LIve at Acme Underground"

It was a pleasure to listen to Chrisine’s music. If you like the elctronic ambience of Lamb or the trip hop melodramtics of Portishead, then Christine Hagan is your medicine!

The rythmic, industrial elctronica allows Christine’s voice to float above it all and comes across like a piercing crystal through the darkness.

Their beats and electronic music adds a touch of flavor that is exciting and creative. Almost like walking through a haunted house. Spooky but then gets thunderous; perfect for a good headbanging!

It’s easy to see Christine has orchestrated her music with extreme precision, and her intensity pays off with these amazing sounds.

Througout her set, Christine demonstrated an amazing voice and her talents on the keys.

Her band is
DJIndustrialAverage on synths and turntables, Christine on vocals.

Bio

Christine Hagan is a singer songwriter based in NYC. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA she was fortunate to live in an environment where music and inspiration flourished. Christine was exposed to a plethora of amazing music and countless legends at a young age- From 5:30AM to midnight my mother played record after record; anything from Jesus Christ Superstar or Evita to Rimsky Korsikovs Scheherazade or Rachmoninoff and everything inbetween including the Beatles and the Carpenters.

Christine began studying the piano under her mother, Angela M. Hagan, at the age of 4. Christine was classically trained by a wide variety of teachers including Sr. Carole Riley (Duquesne University) and Hanna Lui (Carnegie Mellon University), throughout her childhood and high school- though her greatest musical influence continues to be her mother. During high school, Christine began to expand her interests to improvised music. Having transcribed countless herbie Hancock, chick corea, sonny Clark, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, (the list grows) solos she moved in the direction of old school be bop jazz under the study of Dave Budway.

Encouraged to pursue her love for the arts, Christine attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY from 1996-2001 where she studied under Michael Cain, Ralph Alessi and Harold Danko. Eastman afforded her many performance opportunities as well as a thriving environment cultured by faculty and students in which to grow. She completed a BM in jazz piano performance at Eastman in December 2000, after a brief semester at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA.

During her university years and the years following, Christines true love for music took form and she emerged as a composer. She studied film scoring in 2001 and spent the years following conservatory composing and arranging for large and small ensembles in the jazz and orchestral setting. Still, her true love was more popular music in an intimate setting.

Christine lived in Rochester, NY following graduation to save money to move to NYC and compose while taking advantage of the schools facilities. In September of 2003 she took a monumental leap by moving to NYC with only a dream in her corner. Shortly thereafter she was teaching piano and composition lessons at a variety of institutions around the area while spending late nights completing a self recorded/ produced LP and gathering a band to perform live.

The band made their debut performance at the Lions Den in NYC June 24, 2004. After gigging throughout the duration of the summer and fall, Christine joined with producer Anthony J. Resta (Duran Duran, Collective Soul, etc.) to begin recording her EP in December of 2004 at Studio Bopnique (www.studiobopnique.com)
In Lowell, Massachusetts. The E.P. consists of six tracks taking many surprised twists and turns incorporating many styles and genres of music. The early ears that have heard it proclaim it highly for uniqueness and musicality. The release date will be available shortly at which time you will be able to purchase disc through online retailers.
