CHRISTINE HORN BIO

Christine Horn does for soul music what a hit play does for Broadway – she enriches it by expanding its boundaries to an approving audience. The Bronx, NY native brings theatrics to her music that has a therapeutic healing power to all who witness it. Horn delights in exposing audiences to an emotionally charged audio/visual performance that evokes memories of soul queens of years past. Based in Atlanta, the singer/songwriter has no reservations about opening up her soul to listeners and steering them in a completely different direction than what they’re accustomed. With Horn, you’re guaranteed a three-act musical set that’s as much Rent as it is Betty Wright live. “My live show is an experience, full of energy and emotion,” says Horn. “I take myself as well as my audience on a journey through the lives of my characters.”

It is her taste for the eclectic that drives Horn. Coming from a background where artistic diversity was encouraged, the self-described “R&B Alternative” delivers by giving listeners songs that excite the body and give the mind insight by running the gamut of human emotions. There isn’t a topic the trained vocalist and dancer isn’t afraid to tackle in her lyrics, nor a music genre that she won’t incorporate into her sound. From gutbucket soul to psychedelic rock to traditional country & western to southern funk to delta blues to futuristic rhythms, Horn uses her versatile five-octave soprano voice to bathe you in good music. A graduate of Atlanta’s Tri-Cities High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, (which is noted for producing such talents as Outkast, X-Scape and Organized Noise) Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA), and American Music Dramatic Academy in New York, Horn hones both her music and theatrical talents by combining the two to create a style and sound that’s crazy, sexy and cool in its uniqueness. But acting has a special place in Horn’s heart as well. She has performed in theatrical works presented by the Alliance Theater Company, Actor’s Express, Jomandi Productions and Seven Stages Theater, to name a few. Horn’s associations with the thespian community have presented her with the opportunity to hone her craft in the film world, where she has appeared in a number of motion pictures. “I feel like acting is a part of everything that you do.” Horn says.

Although acting is Horn’s first love, music is never far behind. “Acting his my heart, but I love to sing,” she says. Because of Horn’s exposure to a wide variety of music styles and genres, her lyrics tend to make their bed in the surreal. Horn’s songs often delve into dream imagery, while not closing an eye to the realities of the day. She can make you shake your body one minute, then turn into a politicized Dorothy run amok in Oz the next. “Since I write very visually, usually using the characters in my songs, I instantly become them when I’m singing,” Horn says. “So I might start off being the narrator of the story and then switch to the character I was singing about.” Lyrics of a visual nature present Horn with the opportunity to use her acting talents in a live music setting. Horn’s chameleonic use of melody, language, dialect and drama enables her to touch those that are searching for that extra bit of enlightenment, individuality and entertainment in their music. “I’ve experienced more as a person, which has influenced my writing,” Horn says. “Things I’ve seen and gone through…I wasn’t afraid to cross those boundaries.” So take a minute and experience the therapy of Christine Horn. You’ll be glad you did.
