"Danish Band Signs Contract after Eurosonic Performance"

Danish Band Signs Contract after Eurosonic Performance

Envelope is now being released in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.

This week-end at the big show case festival, Eurosonic, the new Danish band, Envelope, succeeded in signing a contract with the Dutch record label AG Music. Their first deal is to release the double single ”Morning Girl/Stay” from their debut, ”Stay”, which was put out in Denmark in October 2001.

So far, the new label, AG Music, has had great success with national bands and soloists, perhaps due to their focus on Indie pop/rock and singer/songwriter. The company first heard Envelope’s album at the German show case festival, Popkomm, and subsequently invited them to play at the Eurosonic festival to experience them live on stage.

Behind Envelope is the Swedish record label, Turmic Records, which up till now has released Envelope’s music in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Korea. Now also including the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.

Currently, Envelope is working on their second album which is to be produced by Mark Berry, former assistant to Sir George Martin. Among others, Berry has been working with David Bowie, Duran Duran and Talk Talk.

It was also at last year’s Popkomm mess that Mark Berry got hold of the ”Stay” album. Later that same year, he was in Stockholm to produce an album. ”On the way back he calls asking if we can meet. Of course we can. So he shows up in Copenhagen on his way back to the U.S.”, explains drummer, Jesper Valentin Holm who has been the band’s drummer ever since the original drummer, Morten Steenhold, was tragically killed in a car accident on New Year’s Eve 1998/99.

Jesper continues:

Mark Berry is extremely thrilled with ”Stay” – thinks the songs are fantastic and wants to produce our next album. Since we met him he has helped us getting in contact with a Canadian/American label with whom we are presently negotiating about recordings. Moreover, Mark has released our two songs ”Stay” and ”Morning Girl” on a compilation CD released by his own label, Attack Records, to college radios and radio stations all over USA and Canada.

In April 2002, Envelope won the Indie Band Search 2002 contest, arranged by the American label Mod Music. Envelope is number 1 on the 16 song compilation CD, ”Indie Choice”, just recently released in America. After listening to it, the legendary music magazine Billboard wrote: ”If you are an A&R exec in a shopping mood, Indie Choice is a must hear.”
