This Too Shall Pass

“This Too Shall Pass”

V: Whenever I was feeling down or things were goin’ wrong,
I would go to mama ‘cause I knew that she’d be strong, like when
I’d lost a fight at school… when I was only five.
Or when I wrecked my Daddy’s car when I first learned to drive.

V: And looking back on moments lived in places time forgot,
Like playin’ Little League but sittin’ on the bench a lot, or when
the girl I’d asked to Prom said yes… to someone else instead.
What I remember most is what my mama always said.

C: Things happen for a reason, we don’t always understand and I can’t
say how long……your pain will last.
Life isn’t always fair – it never happens like we plan,
but I promise you my son this too shall pass.

V: I married young and found a place just big enough for two.
But one day we went separate ways as couples sometimes do, and when
I lost my job I prayed they wouldn’t take the house away.
Each time I turned to mama this is what she had to say.

C: Things happen for a reason, we don’t always understand and I can’t
say how long……your pain will last.
Life isn’t always fair – it never happens like we plan,
but I promise you my son this too shall pass.

B: On Sunday I stopped by to visit mama,
where she’s laid to rest near some old willow trees.
I still missed my mama so, and as I turned to go,
a whisper through the treetops carried on the breeze.

C: Things happen for a reason, we don’t always understand and I can’t
say how long……your pain will last.
Life isn’t always fair – it never happens like we plan,
but I promise you my son this too shall pass.
