Performing writer - I'd go with Blues-rock/neo-soul. Having been singer/lead guitarist in bands for many years, now under my own name and writing for a larger udience, I'm looking to create music with substance that will really connect on a personal level.

Biography

*written Jan., 2007*

The music of singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Towzey is a journey through classic R&B, rock, and world styles bound by clever and spiritually enlightened lyrics, delivered by our honest, soulful, all-American vocal tour guide. On his debut CD, Rockin’ At The Stoplight (now available at www.christowzey.com), the title track welcomes you to the party with an R&B tinged, horn-driven romp through the city streets. Each song tells a story, embracing sounds that embody the characters and moods being explored, from a honky-tonk homage to fine women, to bluesy commentary on the state of the world’s consciousness.

The beginnings of Towzey’s own musical journey can be traced back to his audio upbringing, which included barbershop quartets, country, R&B, blue-eyed soul, and Italian tenors. The latter came during a time when his family spent four years living in Italy, where Towzey’s lifelong fascination with the electric guitar began. At the age of only twelve, he started a band and played his first real gig in Italy for the seventh grade dance. Later, as a music major in California, Towzey explored his fascination with recording equipment and built an analog studio, tying it into a pilot class in recording engineering at Sonoma State University.

Unfulfilled with the life of a sideman in a long line of local bands, Towzey decided to take a leap and become an artist in his own right. He started taking long-distance songwriting lessons with hitmaker Harriet Schock to transform his first artistic ramblings into accessible lyrics. Towzey soon moved from Marin County to Los Angeles and put together a dream team of backing musicians, engineers, and recording and mastering studios to bring life to his vision, even calling on L.A. horn superstar Chris Tedesco to spearhead the three-horn section heard throughout the record.

World influences are apparent in Chris’ music, and his keen interest in Shamanism and non-western philosophies and spiritual orientations have steadily helped him to return to his original passion of playing music and releasing this CD. Plans for the future include writing music using more world instruments, and performing opening spots for major artists.

Rockin' at the Stoplight

Written By: Chris Towzey

Looks like we're stoppin' again, my car is barely movin', victims of the traffic light
Yellow changes to red, I missed that green one again. We're all trapped, no escape in sight
But what's this beat gettin' louder across two lanes, the bass breaks the spell in my head?
Out of the corner of my eye I see her body move in rhythm, fingers snapping, hair flowing and red

She's rockin' at the stoplight, yes she is, she's rockin' at the stoplight

This girl's not encumbered by the social graces and I doubt she's the kind to pretend
In her black pickup truck, high-power stereo, she doesn't fit the retro trend
She doesn't know you're a rebel when you dance in your car - it's deep in the vehicle code
Makes you a troublemaker out on the road drivin' under the influence of soul

She's rockin' at the stoplight, yes she is, she's rockin' at the stoplight

She's decided to share this musical fare as she rolls down her window and screams, “Hey, you over there, do you remember this song, it's still great, don’t you know what I mean?”

She's rockin' at the stoplight, yes she is, she's rockin' at the stoplight

In my mind I'm crying out to get her attention, tell her that I understand that when the groove is tight, and it feels just right, you start shakin' and a wavin' your hands (not many people understand...no, no)

When she's rockin' at the stoplight, yes she is, she's rockin' at the stoplight

It must be transcendental as she frees her mind from this scene where it's stop and go
It's like a prison break where the inmates dance while the guards sit and watch the show

She doesn't know you're a rebel when you dance in your car - it's deep in the vehicle code
Makes you a troublemaker out on the road, drivin' under the influence of soul

She's rockin' at the stoplight, yes she is,
She's rockin' at the stoplight (repeats)

Ocean of Love

Written By: Chris Towzey

I see her smiling face as she walks into the room
She sits next to me, she seems to light up inside
Here's that love I looked for, and though she's here by me,
I get an uneasy feeling coming in like the tide
flooding my mind with thoughts I'm trying to hide
Then all I hear is this question...as our eyes meet

Why does that ocean of love I see in her eyes make a river of tears come from mine
Is it that I just can't commit, or my heart is unsure, am I simply afraid to be loved,
to feel that ocean of love

The thoughts of what I could lose are clouding my mind
As I deal with my doubt my confusion runs deep
despite her looks, her kindness, her personality
Something's keeping my heart from taking that leap,
and feeling this way leaves me incomplete
Then all I hear is this question...as our eyes meet

Why does that ocean of love I see in her eyes make a river of tears come from mine
Is it that I just can't commit, or my heart is unsure, am I simply afraid to be loved,
to feel that ocean of love......

Now I remember those nights back when we first met
The fun never stopped, when did the fun disappear
I know it's time to decide…do I go on or just say goodbye
I hear that devil of doubt, he whispers in my ear,
keeps filling my glass as I drink from my fear...
‘till all I hear is this question as our eyes meet

Why does that ocean of love I see in her eyes make a river of tears come from mine
Is it that I just can't commit, or my heart is unsure, am I simply afraid to be loved,
to feel that ocean of love
