Biography

Christy McGuigan

Christy McGuigan was brought up in a family richly steeped in the old style entertainment world of vaudeville, music, and comedy.
With the influence of his father, a natural comedian, and gifted comic writer, and mother, comic actress, musician and still active comic writer, this man is a unique product in the 21st century.

As well as extensive tours of Ireland, Scotland and England, Christy
has taken his talent as far a field as Dubai (commissioned to perform for
royal family), Italy, Germany, Holland, Norway, Singapore and the USA.

His considerable songwriting and performance skills have seen him
play support act to, amongst others, Mary Black, Dwight
Yokum, Sean Keane, Fairport Convention, Juliet Turner, Bap Kennedy and most recently Brian Kennedy.

Songwriting and stage acting for twenty years now, Christy, in his live shows,
is increasingly drawing from his rich comedy roots.
His musicality and accomplished versatility is clear in his varied musical styles and instrumentation which always compliment the diversity of his lyrics and distinctive vocals.

A chance meeting and an introduction in 2004 took him to Nashville for
a six week trip. Here he was able to pit his skills with the best, playing at
the world famous Bluebird Cafe and Douglas Corner to mention but a few.
During his time there, he was able to meet some music publishers and get the song Wishing Well, (from his first self penned album “All Growed Up”) pitched to major country artist, Alison Krauss.

January 2005 and Christy won the first Belfast/Nashville Songwriter
Festival. for best song in English, with the song “One in Three”, also taken from “All Growed Up”. This opened many doors, and increasingly this man’s talents are being experienced, and thoroughly enjoyed, by the audiences’ it has always deserved.

March 2007 saw the release of Christy’s second piece of solo work; a CD/EP entitled Songwriter Vol 1 . This was premiered in Scotland with critical acclaim and two songs have since been awarded semi-finale certificates by UKSongcontest.

The Irish launch of the new CD was hosted in July 2007 by Fiddler's Green
Festival in Rostrevor where Christy is a longstanding performer and
facilitator. Having played support to Brian Kennedy earlier in the week, his
CD launch attracted a host of new admirers as well as his many fans and
friends.

Quotes and references;

Hi Christy, I hope the rest of your tour was as fabulous as your performance at East Kilbride Folk Club......you wowed the audience +++. Anne Gomez, East Kilbride Arts Centre

“ Christy McGuigan is not precious with his talents, he shares them joyously and leaves you feeling happy and glad to have experienced a very enjoyable, all round entertaining evening. If you are lucky enough to get the chance, go see him.” Jane Cowie, Annex, 9a Stewartville Street, Glasgow G11 5PE
" Christy Mcguigan made his first appearance at Stonehouse Folk Club and following a night of excellent music and songs we will certainly have him back again" Billy, Stonehouse Folk Club
I am simply delighted to recommend him. I have known Christy's family for many years. Both his parents were hugely talented scriptwriters so that Christy not only has been surrounded by theatre and song writing, but has inherited his parents' unique talent. As a singer, writer and vocal coach myself, I highly recommend Christopher McGuigan, both for his musical talent and sparkling personality.
Marjorie Wright, International Opera singer, Author, Vocal Coach
I have known Christy McGuigan for more than twenty years and in that time i have had the opportunity to work with him in many different situations ranging from concert preformance to recording studio and live radio.
He is an excellent musician and considerable songwriter with an exceptional ability to create a special atmosphere between himself and his audience. He has proven to me on many occasions to be a person of integrity and generosity with a great sense of humor.
Together with these qualities, he brings a sense od dedication and tenacity to any project which he undertakes. Colum Sands, Songwriter, Author, Broadcaster

One inThree

Written By: Christy McGuigan

One In Three

Spent the summer time drinking whiskey and wine
The winter time up on detox creek
Up on the ridge with Dr G
And the boys in the white suits
We learnt how to live we learnt how to die
We knew we walked on a very thin line
But we all knew our days were numbered
And the lawman would come

chr
I've got a one in three
Chance of becoming me
I've got a one in three
Lay your hands on me

Took a couple of days and the will to live
Would creep back into any mans soul
Couple of nights dancing with the devil
And paying the toll
We learnt how to look we learnt what to see
The lonely girls and the bad company
But we all knew our days were numbered
The lawman would come

Mondays!

Written By: Christy McGuigan

Mondays

Monday morning I want more sleep
Got a bill to pay and a house to keep
Phone the library phone the doc
Got a mountain to climb gotta feed that feking cat

The kettle's leaking the milk is sour
The fridge sounds like a rally car
The weekend dishes piled so high
That reminds me I'm going out tonight

chr
Have you guessed I don't like Mondays x4

I know I'm stupid if I was wise
I would elevate to a new sunrise
Greet the day with a big big smile
In a month of Sundays and all the pigs will fly

chr

If I was flush and well to do
I'd start the day just as I choose
I'd loosen up my mind through touch
Then cancel Mondays I don't want much

Wonderful life

Written By: C J McGuigan

Wonderful Life (words and music by Christy McGuigan)
Intro 4x4

Sitting outside sunshiny day
Looking across the Bay
Into my vision like an apparition
That took my breath away

Bridge 1
What can it be that connects her to me
How can I tell if it’s real
What can it be that connects me to her
How does she know what I feel

Looking around me I see the envy
All eyes are looking at me
Well I don’t want to show it but I want her to know it
Wonder now if she can see

Bridge 2
Sunshine
Brings out the loving in me
Will you be my
Holiday fantasy

Chr
So I go up to her and I ask her to dance
I’ve got nothing to lose but the chance
If she smiles and says yes I’ll be made up I guess
The start of a loving romance

Who We Are

Written By: Christy McGuigan

WHO WE ARE

FROM THE JOURNEY THAT STARTS RIGHT NOW
TO THE ADVENTURE THAT WILL BE SOMEHOW
THE MOMENT WE LIVE IN NOW
IS WHO WE ARE

RAGGED TORN FACES OF LIFE
TELL A STORY - BUT EACH HAS SURVIVED
EACH EXPERIENCE TAKE US A STEP TOWARD
WHO WE ARE

CHR
EACH EXPERIENCE TAKES US A STEP
NO WORRIES NO REGRETS
EACH EXPERIENCE TAKES US A STEP TOWARDS
WHO WE ARE

SEEK OUT AND FIND - YOU WILL SEE
CREATE WHO YOU WANT TO BE
IT'S YOUR STORY TO DIRECT
AND TO BELIEVE

CHR

IN THIS UNEVEN WORLD OF PLEASURE AND PAIN
NOTHING MATTERS IF THERE'S NO GAIN
WE'RE TRYING TO RECREATE JUST
WHO WE ARE

Shine On

Written By: Christy McGuigan

Shine On
Words and music C McGuigan O

The light in the window
The only light through this storm
Comfort in the knowing
There’s someone there to help me through to dawn

Chr 1
Shine on
And leave a bright light behind
Shine on, shine on

From the sorrow you bring laughter
To the troubled you bring hope
Compassion that brings remission
You’re a drowning man’s cry for a boat

Chr 2
So shine on
Leave a bright light behind
Shine on
For the ones who come behind
Shine on, shine on

I’ll be leaving in the morning
My destiny to serve
They say you’re born with the face God gives you
And you die with the one you deserve

When the Thunder Water Rolled

Written By: Christy McGuigan

When the Thunder Water Rolled
(Words and music C McGuigan)

Waves the size of houses
Came thrashing through their homes
Everything they ever worked for
Destroyed when the thunder water rolled

Can you believe the awesome power of nature
The scale of disaster we can’t comprehend
As we sit in our comfy chair we pledge money
Can there be no more question about debt to these lands

Chr
It’s a chance
To give a little bit - love a little bit
A Chance
To give a little bit – love a little bit
Give a little bit – love a little bit
Give a little bit – love a little bit
Give a little bit

A year that ended in disaster
A year that started with sympathy
Realise for a moment we forgot about ourselves
Maybe this is the way we’re meant to be

Chr

From a wave of destruction
Comes a wave of compassion
I hope we learn from compassion
We find inner peace

Chr

You got to give – you got to love x4

Glasgow Town

GLASCOW TOWN Words and Music by C J McGuigan

COMING INTO GLASCOW
DON’T KNOW WHERE I’M GOIN
THE M8 DRAGS ME DOWN THE HILL
I THINK I’VE MISSED MY TURN

THE MOBILE PHONE'S A SAVIOUR
WHEN IT COMES TO TIMES LIKE THIS
VERY SOON I'D FOUND MY WAY
THE WELCOME WAS BLISS

A FEW DAYS NOW IN SCOTLAND
I DONT FEEK ALONE
THE BLEATHERING THE FRIENDLINESS
PART OF ME FEELS HOME

DOES THE LAND MOULD THE PEOPLE
THE MUSIC AND THE SOUL
SO MUCH WE’VE IN COMMON
LIKE FRIENDS I’VE NEVER KNOWN

CHR
JUST LIKE HOME
THE TIDE DON’T COME IN IT COMES DOWN
BUT THE RAIN WONT DROWN
THE SPIRIT OF THIS GLASCOW TOWN

DOWN IN PADDY’S MARKET
FOUND AN OLD HANK STYLE GUITAR
WITH PASSION WE SANG ‘LOVE SICK BLUES’
WE’D KNOWN THAT ACHING HEART

I’M TAKEN BY THE EMPATHY
AND THE GENUINE RESPECT
THEY'RE HARD WORKING PEOPLE
AND THE BEST OF GOOD OLD CRAIC

You'll Find the Answer

Written By: Christy McGuigan

YOU’LL FIND THE ANSWER
Words and music C McGuigan

YOU’LL FIND THE ANSWER
DEEP INSIDE
BE GUIDED WHERE
LOVE CAN’T HIDE

AND LET YOURSELF
FALL WITH GRACE
YOU’LL FIND YOURSELF
A NEW RESTING PLACE

IN QUIET TIMES
THAT’S WHEN YOU’LL SEE
THE COMFORT ZONE
YOU COULD NOT FEEL

A LONELY JOURNEY
AT AN END
A LONG LOST LOVER
A NEW FOUND FRIEND

IN LIFE NO BEGINNING
IN EVERYTHING NO END
FREE FROM THE DARKNESS
ENLIGHTENMENT YOUR FRIEND

YOU’RE NOW AT ONE
WITH SOMEONE NEW
TO STAND ALONE
YOURSELF AND YOU

Cathy Come Home

Written By: Christy McGuigan

CATHY COME HOME
(WORDS AND MUSIC C MCGUIGAN)

I FEEL YOU'VE COME A BIT CLOSER
IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS
I FEEL I'M GETTING TO KNOW YOU
FINDING MY FEET

WE'VE BEEN THROUGH SOME BAD TIMES
FROM THAT I KNOW YOU'RE STRONG
AND IT SERVES TO REMIND ME
WHERE WE'VE COME FROM

LOOK AT MY LIFE, SEE HOW I'VE CHANGED
IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE PLEASE SAY
NATURE HAS A WAY IF YOU GIVE HER A CHANCE
DON'T BE BLINDED, ON YOUR WAY

CHR
CATHY COME HOME
I'M CONTEMPLATING ALL THE THINGS
THEY SAID WOULD GO WRONG
I'M EXCAVATING ALL MY LOVE
TO BUILD YOU A NEW HOME

I PASS THROUGH DIFFERENT PHASES
OF PLANNING HOW YOU WILL SEE
BUT YOU WONT LET ME NEAR YOU
TO TELL YOU JUST HOW I FEEL

TAKE A CHANCE, PUT DOWN YOU'RE BLUES
WE'VE BEEN FIGHTING FAR TOO LONG
NATURE HAS A WAY IF YOU GIVE HER A CHANCE
DON'T BE BLINDED AND ON YOUR OWN

CHR

HOW CAN THIS BE WRONG
WHEN IT FEELS SO RIGHT
COME ON TAKE A CHANCE
AND STAY THE NIGHT
