Biography

San Diego has seen a lot of Christy Wilson.

When Christy first broke onto the scene in 2001, it wasn't with her music at all, but as lead singer of PowerHouse, a local start-up rock band covering Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow and Gwen Stefani. It was on these stages - including several Hennessey's Taverns, biker bars and clubs on Marine bases at Miramar and Camp Pendleton - that her musical education really began. She learned to sing with a band, to lead musicians in an inspiring way, to engage an audience, and to negotiate with promoters. And she was learning her style.

Within a year, PowerHouse realized where the cover music satisfaction was, and switched formats to become a dance band. The PH calendar started to fill with the rest of the San Diego venues, mostly downtown and beach dance clubs, private parties and weddings.

After 18 months of disco, and several lineup changes, the Christy Wilson Band was formed. Using songs that Christy had written recently and over the past few years, in various stages of completion, the CWB went back to the rock bars and became a "real Band." Including re-makes of classic songs by the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, and more, the band found their voice on stage and in the studio. The long-awaited "GET READY" was released independently on June 12, 2004.

Christy's music has been compared to that of Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and Tori Amos. Like Sheryl Crow's first record, Tuesday Night Music Club, GET READY has one voice, but many faces. Guitar-driven, straight-ahead rock gives way to piano grooves or energetic acoustic rock rhythms. This first collection received rave reviews from fans as far away as the UK, and has sold nearly 1,000 copies so far in the U.S.

Since the breakup of the Christy Wilson Band in 2004, Christy has been striking out on her own, writing and performing on her strongest instrument: the piano. Solo performances have earned her a small but growing fan base in several major cities nationwide, including Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Boston, and her home town San Diego.

Christy was recently selected to showcase at the Durango Songwriter's Expo in Santa Barbara, CA in June 2005.

Lyrics

Mad World

Written By: Christy Wilson

got to be some kind of
rainy day thing
I can't get you off my mind
seems to me that maybe
you think
there's some kind of glory in self-denial

it's a mad world
it's a mad world
it's a mad world
when I feel everything you are
but I am not your girl

you give me so many things I want
don't push it over the edge
baby you're so young
one permission slip of the tongue
could pull us under
over your head

it's a mad world
it's a mad world
it's a mad world
when I feel everything you are
but I am not your girl

seems to me so many things I want
are over my head
baby we're so young
one permission slip of the tongue
could pull us under
over the edge

it's a mad world
it's a mad world
it's a mad world
when I feel everything you are
but I am not your girl

I never lost my way
when it was not my place to lose
it's a tilted frame
but it's forever changed my view
I may never find
the innocence I'm blinded to
I've never been so close
I can taste the words I'd use

it's a mad world
it's a mad world
it's a mad world
when I am everything you want
but I am not your girl

If They Knew

Written By: Christy Wilson

don't give up
is all I hear anymore
good enough
but not so easy to hear
down here on the floor
I'm so tired
of hearing how you'll be there for me
you're nowhere I can see
and we both know you don't know me

I want
what everyone wants
I want more
I need
what everyone would need
if they knew what to ask for

I could wait
see how long it takes
until you find me
I could say
I'm gonna escape
run until I can't breathe
but how far
is far enough until I'm free
someone take me away
I can't stay
locked up, afraid, here inside me

I want
what everyone wants
I want more
I need
what everyone would need
if they knew what to ask for
I want
what everyone wants
I know the truth
I need
what everyone would need
if they knew you

if they knew you
if they knew you
if they knew you

I want
what everyone wants
I want more
I need
what everyone would need
if they knew what to ask for
I want
what everyone wants
I know the truth
I need
what everyone would need
if they knew you

so here goes
I'm ready to blow these walls away
I'm going
I'm rolling like a stone

Pray For Rain

Written By: Christy Wilson

you always say
everything looks better in the rain
you only see
everything you want to see
when you say my name
almost seems it all could be the same
but you've always seen
everything you want to see in me

so here I stand
alone in my sin
with only a song
to cover my skin
I can imagine
me in your eyes
with only a smile
to cover my lies
before I go confessing
all that I hide
baby, let's take this outside
and I'll pray for rain

you say you know
everything feels better when
it's cold outside
maybe you're right
tell me that it's safe
to come in this time

so here I stand
alone in my sin
with only a song
to cover my skin
I can imagine
me in your eyes
with only a smile
to cover my lies
before I go confessing
all that I hide
baby, let's take this outside
and I'll pray for rain
I'll pray for rain
