Bio

San Diego has seen a lot of Christy Wilson.

When Christy first broke onto the scene in 2001, it wasn't with her music at all, but as lead singer of PowerHouse, a local start-up rock band covering Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow and Gwen Stefani. It was on these stages - including several Hennessey's Taverns, biker bars and clubs on Marine bases at Miramar and Camp Pendleton - that her musical education really began. She learned to sing with a band, to lead musicians in an inspiring way, to engage an audience, and to negotiate with promoters. And she was learning her style.

Within a year, PowerHouse realized where the cover music satisfaction was, and switched formats to become a dance band. The PH calendar started to fill with the rest of the San Diego venues, mostly downtown and beach dance clubs, private parties and weddings.

After 18 months of disco, and several lineup changes, the Christy Wilson Band was formed. Using songs that Christy had written recently and over the past few years, in various stages of completion, the CWB went back to the rock bars and became a "real Band." Including re-makes of classic songs by the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, and more, the band found their voice on stage and in the studio. The long-awaited "GET READY" was released independently on June 12, 2004.

Christy's music has been compared to that of Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and Tori Amos. Like Sheryl Crow's first record, Tuesday Night Music Club, GET READY has one voice, but many faces. Guitar-driven, straight-ahead rock gives way to piano grooves or energetic acoustic rock rhythms. This first collection received rave reviews from fans as far away as the UK, and has sold nearly 1,000 copies so far in the U.S.

Since the breakup of the Christy Wilson Band in 2004, Christy has been striking out on her own, writing and performing on her strongest instrument: the piano. Solo performances have earned her a small but growing fan base in several major cities nationwide, including Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Boston, and her home town San Diego.

Christy was recently selected to showcase at the Durango Songwriter's Expo in Santa Barbara, CA in June 2005.
