Biography

Chris Weiss is an acoustic guitarist from Lexington, Kentucky. His finger-style guitar arrangements captivate your ears, and stretch the barriers of style. Firmly rooted in 60‘s and 70’s folk, rock, and jazz Chris’s style takes excursions from classical to bluegrass. It was his love for the music of Pierre Bensusan, Alex Degrassi, and later Andy Mckee that united his love for classical, jazz, and rock music. Chris’s performances prove that style is a state of flux, not a set parameter.

Chris is touring this summer and fall promoting his first full length release “reflection”. Digital copies are available on iTunes, Amazon.com, as well as a hard copy CD direct from the home page of this website. Chris has performed for audiences as large as 200 and as small as 40, selling hundreds of copies along the way. This summer he will perform several instrumental guitar selections from “reflection” in competition at The Canadian Guitar Festival. A mid western mini tour is in the works for this 2011 season. There are already confirmed dates in central Ohio and northern Michigan.

Chris’s first record is a look backwards at the roots of his musical inspirations, which comes from many places. For his first album, it comes from as close as his mother’s ballad to as far away as Swaziland. Chris is already hard at work writing for his sophomore release, due to be out the fall of 2012. It will include some of his singer/song writer material, which reveals Chris’s ‘eyes open’ yet optimistic take on the experiences that shape the world around him. “Music means different things to different people,” he says, “To me it means a bit of sanity. My goal is to share that peace with the world.” Chris is gaining recognition in Central Kentucky and southern Ohio for his finger-style technique and musical sensibility. His love for acoustic music has driven him to begin a bi-monthly regional guitar show highlighting some the area’s finest musicians. More information for that program can be found at the Central Kentucky Guitar Night section of his home website.
