Hats and Horns

Written By: Casey O'Hara

HATS AND HORNS

I start to feel it coming
A couple of days before
My pulse starts a-climbing
Like it’s headed off the charts
My heart takes to crashing and dying
In between the stops and starts
Then feels ready to be reborn
As common sense, intelligence and reason too
Start heading toward the fire door

It’s always hats and horns
When I’m hooking up with you

We could have a party inside a refrigerator box
Rolling around like we’re some stay-fresh Huck Finn
Dancing on the current and kicking off the lid
We got no use for directions or maps
Got no need for calendars or clocks
It’s like we got packs of wild kids
Running around beneath our skin

And when you laugh, I can hear it come
From deep within your soul
Like the rest of the world
Should be laughing too

It’s always hats and horns
When I’m hooking up with you

How good are we together?
Could the two of us ever be a better fit?
When they want to figure out
What love is all about
All they have to do is look at us
To see that this is really it

We got scented candles glowing in our hearts
Magic and music flowing inside our veins
We got frolic-beams flashing before our eyes
Mayhem and mystery mucking up our brains

Every moment we spend together is unlike anyone before
And so totally different from any more to come
We always want to share the last drop of pleasure
And so it will be until we decide we’re done

And when you laugh, I can hear it come
From deep within your soul
Like you want the rest of the world
To be laughing too

It’s always hats and horns
When I’m hooking up with you

Three Mysteries

Written By: Chuck Casey

THREE MYSTERIES

I knew three women from several lives
Each one took me through her secret door
And each one showed me her sacred side

The first one dragged me to her jungle floor
She was keeper of the cage and it felt so right
She had no important reason to explore
And she could always lock the gate at night

She needed love to endure her liberty
And I wanted so to love her
So I could share her mystery

The next one rolled me to her endless plains
Where she watched the sick and dying in the day
She felt like she was riding on a hopeless wagon train
At night she dreamt of leaving but still showed up to pray

She needed love to endure her piety
And I wanted so to love her
So I could share her mystery

The last one lived alone on a mountain high
She only knew silence-yet she remained
As witness to the prayer flags lying flat upon the sky
Longing for that passion touch and denying her pain

She needed love to endure her sanctity
Oh! I wanted so to love her
So I could share her mystery

We Got The Streets

Written By: Chuck Casey

WE GOT THE STREETS

We keep looking in your eyes
And we keep on wanting more
We got the streets to ourselves
We keep looking at the sky
And we keep on wanting more
We got the streets to ourselves

When nothing means enough
The streets can make you special
And when you’re sick of yourself
Watch the sickness turn to heat

Let the procession surround you
Let it last for just an instant
Because an instant is all you need

But why use words
For the sake of using words
When there’s a procession
On the street

We keep looking in your eyes
And we keep on wanting more
We got the streets to ourselves
We keep looking at the sky
And we keep on wanting more
We got the streets to ourselves

And we keep on wanting so much more…
And we keep on wanting so much more…

Gonna Go By You

Written By: Chuck Casey

GONNA GO BY YOU

I got creatures biting me on my shins
I got holy folk piling on more of their sins
There are witch doctors saying to add layers of skin
It feels like the whole universe itself is closing in

So much gone from me don’t know what’s left to save
My head’s spinning like it got smacked by a giant wave
Everyone around me wants to show me what they crave
I swear they’re going to put me in an early grave

I’m growing tired of being told where to go
I’m growing so sick of being told what to do
I need someone who can slow it all down for me
That’s why I’m gonna go by you

When I go by you I can finally open up again
Where you and I can float in our own moonlit world
Where the lowest voices are the most powerful
Where simple fun is the only concept mentioned
Where strength is soft and silence is natural
Where love never has to be questioned
But in each moment is offered as a gift
A gift that’s offered freely
A gift that’s accepted just as easily
A gift made sweeter as we share each other equally
A gift made sweeter as we share each other equally

I’m growing tired of being told where to go
I’m growing so sick of being told what to do
I need someone who can make it all right for me
That’s why I’m gonna go by you

The peace I feel in your presence
The enchantment I see in your eyes
I would have this moment last forever
And always leave me mystified

I’m growing tired of being told where to go
I’m growing so sick of being told what to do
I need someone who can make it all right for me
That’s why I’m gonna go by you

Discovering Lives

Written By: Chuck Casey

DISCOVERING LIVES

I can’t begin to count
All the places we met at
You’d be on the East Side working out
I’d be downtown bouncing about
But you know we’d always find a way
To spend a few hours hanging out

Yeah, we would hang but we never knew
That our bodies were surrounded by flies
That rocks had been placed on our eyes
As we watched our world crack and cave
The way we knew each other
Would never be the same

Uncovering a life
A woman discovered
A new love in existence
A second life uncovered

Bridge
Did we get hit by some ancient bond that snapped?
Were we dragged by some wicked force unearthly?
Could it have been a rotting temple that collapsed?
Whatever it was, there’s no denying something happened….

Uncovering a life
A woman discovered
A new love in existence
A second life uncovered

It was like a door suddenly opened
And we found ourselves drawn
Into a hidden chamber room
There I could finally see
The invisible mask you had worn
The relics of the past lying next to you
And the life you were bringing to me

I saw the shrine to the lonely lord
Who was too scared to make it through
I saw a statue of the loud-mouth fool
Whose voice was finally muted
And I felt the dark, secret hole
Where the throbbing jewel had been looted

Uncovering a life
A woman discovered
A new love in existence
A second life uncovered

The forgotten gifts recovered
In the fragments that we saw
Creation of loves, creation of lives
Awaiting before us unexplored
The realm of longing no longer denied
And nothing is as it was before
And nothing is as it was before
And nothing is as it was before

Uncovering a life
A woman discovered
A new love in existence
A second life uncovered

MAMA SEE-MAMA WANT-MAMA DO

Written By: Chuck Casey

MAMA SEE-MAMA WANT-MAMA DO

I saw you at the construction site-
Oh, it’s so alluring to see a woman
Wearing work clothes
In the early morning light-
You looked at me-I had to stop-
You took my breath away-
The rising sun wasn’t shining nearly as bright-
You said you’d return it later in the day

Mama see-Mama want-Mama do
Never knew what I was missing till I met you

You wanted me to stop at your place
So I could see your brand new pet
Well I’ve been to the Bronx Zoo a bunch of times
But this was a creature I had never met
You told me he’s a real good boy and a lot of fun
Come over here, you said,
I want you to rub his neck
His name is Attila but I call him Hon

Mama see-Mama want-Mama do
Life is not worth living except when I’m with you

Well my Mama stands straight about 5’3”
And the hair on her crown is like a lion’s do
Her eyes are as blue as the cruel blue sea
But when she’s lying on her back
She’s looking like she’s 6’2”
And I’m starting to realize
As I fight my way through
Jonah and his mama ain’t got nothing on me.

Mama see-Mama want-Mama do
How could I ever go on living without you?

You wanted us to get away for a while
To take a break from the life we have led
You said we’ll be gone 13 days and 47 nights
I went to run-you grabbed my belt-
I knew I was in way over my head-
You didn’t want to see that look of fright
So, man oh man, from this point on
I’m betting Goliath with the spread

Mama see-mama want-mama do
We’re gonna be together until we’re through

Circumstances

Written By: Chuck Casey

CIRCUMSTANCES

You had no idea what was
Going on with me
And I knew the same about you
We thought it was crazy that very first night
When every wild moment felt so right
But we could never imagine
All the madness we’d have to live through

Circumstances first brought us together
And now circumstances are keeping us apart
We can not come too close…can never go too far
We’re being held by the pull of each other’s heart

Our timing was off by a decade or two
It never mattered much to us
Well at least that’s what we said
We were hoping luck would finally win
But things would always turn wrong again
As you’d glow in the light of your latest flame
While I’d be getting myself kicked out of bed

Circumstances first brought us together
And now circumstances are keeping us apart
We can not come too close…can never go too far
We’re being held by the pulse of each other’s heart

Luck, timing, destiny, fate
No matter what we call it
We never could catch a break
So we share the daily laughter
And we bury the hidden fear
Both sides of our loving
Spread across the years

Yeah, circumstances first gave us love
Then gave us the feelings we’re so afraid of

Now we joke that
We owe each other nothing
That we never really want
Someone we can have
And that we always leave
The big things unresolved
I guess all this joking
Is just how we avoid the pain
Of not being more deeply involved

Circumstances first brought us together
And now circumstances are keeping us apart
We can not come too close…can never go too far
We’re being held by the throb of each other’s heart
Oh! we’re being held by the sobs of each other’s heart

Yeah, circumstances first gave us love
Then gave us the feelings we’re so afraid of

We Got the Streets

Written By: Chuck Casey

WE GOT THE STREETS

Trying to sleep
My body’s been tossing and turning
We keep looking in your eyes
And we keep on wanting more

Pushing too hard
My brain has been smoking and burning
We keep looking at the sky
And we keep on wanting more

We got to get out to the streets
Cause the streets will make you special
We got the streets to ourselves
And the streets will make things right

Out on the streets it’s like a procession
You start to feel so much bigger than yourself
You’re not afraid to feel the possession
Of being out on the streets all night

Waking up soaked
Can’t stop myself from pacing the floor
We keep looking in your eyes
And we keep on wanting more

Feeling so numb
Swear I’ve been wasted down to the core
We keep looking at the sky
And we keep on wanting more

We got to get out to the streets
Cause the streets will make you special
We got the streets to ourselves
And the streets will make things right

Out on the streets it’s like a procession
You start to feel so much bigger than yourself
You’re not afraid to feel the possession
Of being out on the streets all night

We got the streets to ourselves
We got the streets to ourselves

And we keep on wanting so much more…
And we keep on wanting so much more…

Eden's Alley

Written By: Chuck Casey

EDEN’S ALLEY

Missing body parts-missing clothes
There’s a whole bunch of people
Dying to tell me what each one knows

Misery in the heart-misery on the ground
Misery in the alley way
Trying to take me down

You’d be tempted to think-tempted to say
This is no way to live and things have to change
These gotta be the last of the good old days

And so it was and so it was
Checking out the circles of sin
Heading downtown to Eden’s Alley
Where it’s harder getting out
Than it is getting in

Rolling through the dirty streets
Looking for our own pleasure park
Ready to take up with anyone we meet

Windows blown out-doors shut cold by fear
Got no fruit-got no trees
Got plenty of snakes to whisper in my ear

You’d be tempted to think-tempted to say
This is no way to live and things have to change
These gotta be the last of the good old days

And so it was and so it was
Checking out the circles of sin
Heading downtown to Eden’s Alley
Where it’s harder getting out
Than it is getting in

You know, we got what we got
And I ain’t a-scared
If this is all and there’s nothing more
Well so be it
I’ll hang with the angels
And stick to the core
And when the big guy comes to kick me out
Maybe I won’t agree to it

I mean an alley ain’t a garden
But it’s so much better than being in a gutter
And if I was in either of those places
How much more would it really matter?

You’d be tempted to think-tempted to say
This is no way to live and things have to change
These gotta be the last of the good old days

And so it was and so it was
Checking out the circles of sin
Heading downtown to Eden’s Alley
Where it’s harder getting out
Than it is getting in

Sleeping In A Torpedo Tube

Written By: Chuck Casey

SLEEPING IN A TORPEDO TUBE

I’m still not sure of the parts you got
You show me earrings and tattoos
I have no idea what’s what
I have no idea who’s who

Until I find out who’s friend or foe
I’m just gonna have to lie and wait
But you really gotta let me know
‘Cause when the tap comes, I can’t hesitate

Chorus
You’re gonna hit the fuse
You’re gonna make me move
You got me sleeping
In a torpedo tube

I feel your generators humming
I know there’s complex scenery
I bet you’re hearing violins strumming
Through your liquid machinery

You’re wondering if I’m angry
That I’m just your stupid weapon system
There is no reason for you to worry
‘Cause I’ve given up resistin’

Chorus
You’re gonna hit the fuse
You’re gonna make me move
You got me sleeping
In a torpedo tube

Bridge
You got me shooting up and shooting down
I’m shooting front-I’m shooting back
I’m shooting where you tell me to
I’m always ready to attack
It’s a wacko kind of warfare
That’s been going on for years
Not even sure who I’m rooting for
Depends on what I hear

I’m fighting a hidden enemy
And they’re thinking they gotta be winning
But I’m not too sure that I agree
Since I’m the one who’s grinning

Chorus
You’re gonna hit the fuse
You’re gonna make me move
You got me sleeping
In a torpedo tube

Bad To Worse

Written By: Chuck Casey

BAD TO WORSE

It came upon us one night
Like a bolt out of the blue
We looked at each other as friends
Then suddenly saw something new

It must’ve come from a hidden place
Like a comet from the dark
Blazed a trail right between us
And lit a dangerous spark

Chorus
We could never plan a thing like this
Our lives would be forever cursed
‘Cause if it’s good that’s bad
And if it’s bad that’s worse

The world was turning inside out
The air around us grew hot and thin
Time was moving in a desperate way
The strength we had was giving in

Where we were headed we both knew
The moment itself was taking us
Where we were headed we both knew
The moment itself was unmaking us

Chorus
Then you said we can’t do this
Our lives would be forever cursed
‘Cause if it’s good that’s bad
And if it’s bad that’s worse

It was a mindless drama unfolding
Playing someone else comes at a cost
If this had gone to the final scene
That special part within us would be forever lost

Thank goodness you could stop yourself
One of us needed to be strong
Because both of us would always know
What could have been so right
Would have been so wrong
What could have been so right
Would have been so wrong

Chorus
If we went ahead with this
Our lives would be forever cursed
‘Cause if it’s good that’s bad
And if it’s bad that’s worse
