Here’s a lady who has been blessed with so much talent that she can effortlessly hold her own with the best, yet, at 32 years of age, she’s still not a household name. Her name is Kimia Collins aka “Chyna Doll” from Baltimore. She likes to say she was “born to B’More. “ The single mother of three, who maintains a positive attitude about life and herself, feels that one of the reasons she hasn’t made it in the music biz is because she’s a plus-size woman. From record label executives to managers, the first thing they want to focus on is her weight or just plain change her instead of accepting her as she is with her wonderful, God-given talent. This might be one of the reasons she loves Jennifer Hudson, a plus size woman who beat the odds and not only proved the American Idol wrong, but also she went on to win an Oscar for her unforgettable performance in “Dream Girls.” Another one of Collins’ favorite vocalists is Mary J. Blige, whom she has dreams of working with someday. After listening to the lyrics of Collins music, which she writes, she seems to come from the same place as Blige. Collins not only has big dreams of being a major artist, but she also she has plans for Mass Media Entertainment, a music & film production company with a non-profit organization under it’s umbrella: Project Build Peace, Inc., a fine arts and entrepreneurial program that would train and mentor people on how to get into the music business. Collins says she will be the example and blueprint for aspiring artists to follow.
