Lyrics

We Were Eskimos

Written By: Ciaran Carmichael

You may remember, though it was years ago
In late December, when we were Eskimos
Crawling around on the ivory ground, knee deep in snow
Constructing our icicle sculptures where we made a home
When we were young, when we were young

Have you forgotten where we would watch the stars?
Out on your back porch with me and my guitar
Just playing you a song in the hopes that you would care
and in retrospect I see it never got me anywhere

When I was young, when I was young

And regret lies in mistakes that bind us to the ground we left behind
with new found eyes, a conscience cries to admit what's done is done

And I can see it, now that I'm older still
the words I said then were very infantile
Living in the past, hoping time will come at last, is not a place you want to land
just remember the man who took you by the hand and made you understand

That you were young

You may remember though it was years ago
In late December when we were Eskimos

Canvas

Written By: Ciaran Carmichael

Words were strong, but not enough
to make me disagree that it's over
While we were living life, and feeling fine
feeling drunk when we were still sober

And could you please understand that there's more in my hand
things that I still haven't played
when I choose the words that I say
Just to keep you away, times that we could just erase

Can't you see what we've made in the pictures we paint on a canvas that was ours
While the spray painted leaves fell from branches and trees where we first saw the stars

Times were good and times were bad
and we were just stuck in between them
We were saying things and placing blame
we both knew that we didn't mean it
And could you please understand, it was never my plan
to break your heart and soul apart
darling please understand you were forcing our hands
to make the quickest, cleanest cut

Can't you see what we've made in the pictures we paint on a canvas that was ours
While the spray painted leaves fell from branches and trees where we first saw the stars

Fish in the Sea

Written By: Ciaran Carmichael

As she turns her head to the western wind
Thinking where will I find another man like him?
While the tears are pouring from her eyes
as she kisses the world she knew goodbye

Singing Oh-oo

And the moments that pass seem like days on end
from a broken heart she could not defend
The barriers that she had built
Like wintertime flowers were forced to wilt

Singing oh-oo

And I know it's not up to me, and it feels so bittersweet
but finally I start to see that there's more fish in the sea

Singing Oh-oo

And I know it's not up to me, and it feels so bittersweet
so finally I start to see that there's more fish in the sea

So she shifts her head to the rising sun
just to reconnect what has come undone
And the flowing tears she once had cried
With time and will they all, they all had dried
