"album review"

“Cibelle has crafted a sophisticated trilingual pop record, spinning twitchy electronics, American freak-folk, and Brazilian traditions into a glittering tableau All the more radiant for their partial construction, Cibelle's songs are marked by a billowing drift, with pliant, meandering melodies and progressions that seem less linear than mutational, evolving toward realization by gradual degrees”
- Pitchfork

"album review"

"The sound of the summer…however this isn't your average summer… Opening with a Tom Waits cover is risky, but transforming his growl into Joanna Newsom meeting Edith Piaf proves that Cibelle's not only unafraid to mess with preconceptions, she's also a budding star" - NME

"album review"

"She's a canny pop amalgamator, experimenting with soundscapes but never forgetting about tunes… Even when her music is most borderless and surreal, she never sounds disoriented" - New York Times

Bio

One of the most imaginative artists around, Cibelle first came to attention as the main vocalist on the late Suba's cult São Paulo Confessions album. After a successful and critically-acclaimed self-titled debut, Cibelle released "The Shine of Dried Electric Leaves", which incorporated a full and rich palette of instruments with captivating textural soundscapes and enchanting storytelling. It was recorded and produced by Cibelle in collaboration with Mike Lindsay (Tunng), Apollo Nove and Yann Arnaud (Air), and featured duets with Seu Jorge, Spleen and Devendra Banhart. Cibelle is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and is established in London. "Cibelle … in Last Vênus Palace Resort Hotel" is her third album.
