Cindy Ortega

Singer Cindy Ortega was one of seven children born and raised in Santa Ana, California to parents from Morelia Michoacan, Mexico. At the age of three, her parents realized her strong interest in singing while watching her sing along and mimic her favorite TV shows Sabado Gigante, Christina and Siempre en Domingo. She would also sing along with her parents favorites, such as Gloria Trevi, Juan Gabriel, Lucero and Alejandra Gabriel. Her parents, very supportive of her talent, bought her a karaoke machine where she would practice constantly. She was soon in high demand at all their family functions and even performed at the local swap meets.

In school, her teachers took notice of Cindy's talent, encouraging her to perform at school assemblies and special events. At the age of ten, Cindy's parents entered her in two television singing contests on "Facilisimo" and "Cuante Cuesta El Show." She won first prize on both shows multiple times. Cindy participated in choir and dance teams throughout middle school and High school. At the Age of twelve, Cindy joined a band called Los Fannys and they played at local clubs and fairs in Santa Ana. During this time, she met songwriter/guitarist Ismael Camacho, who became a mentor to her. He encouraged her to start writing her own material and had her singing and demoing songs in the style of "Boleros" and fast paced "Huapangos." Together they would perform and volunteer at a senior center in Orange County. At the age of sixteen, she entered yet another singing contest at the Orange County Fairgrounds. She sang a song in Spanish by Gloria Estefan called "Los Anos Que me Quedan." She was the only Latina entered in this contest and took home first prize.

As a sophomore in High school, Cindy's taste in music began to change. She began to listen to such artists as Selena, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Laura Pausin, Celine Dion and Tony Braxton. She worked for the Arts Youth Program which brought Santa Ana students together to share their talents in dance, acting, musicianship and singing. She also began working with producer/songwriter Michael Figueroa, with whom she started co-writing songs.

In 2001, Cindy gave birth to a son and decided to take some time off music to dedicate herself to her new family. Two years later, she returned to music by helping a friend write and record songs for artists he was developing. These collaborations lead to major label interest for some of the artists. The process of working with other artists reignited Cindy's love of singing. She is now in the process of writing and recording songs for her own project. Working with renowned songwriters Leticia Ascencio and Javier Ceja, Cindy will be ready to make her mark on latin music in 2013.
