Cinematic Clouds is the name of a solo electronic artist from Moscow who uses a variety of musical styles and instrumentation to set mood and atmosphere with abstract, dreamy imagery in jazz-fusion as performance art.

Along the way, he also taps into a universal superconscious for the listener/viewer of his music video, “Fregolis Dream.” Based on a true story from a textbook detailing psychiatric symptoms, the music and the video lay out several key characters from beginning to end — three men, one woman — but let the audience draw in deeper, personal meaning and bridge expository gaps. This small group seems to be in a room about to witness a music magician who begins sporting a metallic toy beard. They regard him diffidently, one with a little more hostility. Then, this bearded magic man takes them on a journey through the woods, and back into another room to delight in a kind of Burning Man phenomenon. The music video ends with the bearded magic man having departed and the three remaining lead characters applauding, much happier, freer, turned on with inner energy as represented in light instead of human forms, diffused into their basic essence.

Cinematic Clouds likens his music to Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, where listeners are invited to enter into another dimension and open themselves up to whatever feelings may come.

The music itself is strangely alluring, as if one has heard it a million times before in a million dreams, reminiscent of an amalgam of universal notes throughout time. A funk knot of electronica gives way to a jazz-inspired dusting of piano and horn. As these two harmonious instruments intertwine, they expose the spectrum of musical colors in tone and shadings, with the funky knot of electronica maintaining a trance-like groove. Definitely something intoxicatingly familiar yet mysterious in the air.

“Fergolis Dream” musically fits as the mental wanderings of an imbalanced patient, or a glimpse into the spirit world afterlife, as human form disappears into soul energy colors vibrating with different light, motion, and frequency. See Michael Newton’s “Journey Of Souls.” This song would make a perfect soundtrack to a movie adaptation.
