Biography

The LA Weekly says...
You expect something magical from a performer named Circe Link,
and the local singer-songwriter is often quite enchanting …
This modern-day Circe pleasantly blends countrified folk with
jazzy retro swing in her original songs…
Then, out of the blue, she surprises with an unusual cover
of Ozzy Osbourne’s “No More Tears,” which is slowed down
with a bluesy deliberation …instead of playing it for laughs,
Link delivers the song with conviction,
finding new magic in the unlikeliest of places.
(Falling James) -LAWeekly

The Short and Sweet Version:
After five charming CD’s, worldwide record sales, and a successful tour in Japan, it’s obvious this gal is cooking with the right stuff. Circe Link’s music creates a tasty blend of nostalgic Country, steamy Jazz, and weeping Blues.
Circe held the #1 spot in Jazz on Garageband.com for over two years. She has been an LA Weekly Pick of the Week, an Amoeba Records ‘Home Grown Artist’. She was selected by Clear Channel for a featured national radio promotion called “Emerging Artists”, and has charted on the internet music service Rhapsody.net right next to Alison Krauss and Madeline Peyroux, this girl is serving up the best independent music has to offer with a sound discriminating ears were waiting for.

The Long Story:
Picture yourself in the back of a shiny vintage car, at a small table in a dark smoky bar, or on the porch of a house that time forgot and you will find yourself in the cinematic mind and music of Circe Link.

Circe has had multiple songs charting in the #1 slot in the Americana, Country, Blues and Jazz categories on the award winning music site Garageband.com for over two years.
Consequently, she was hand picked to be included in the first Clear Channel Independent radio promotion called “Emerging Artists”. And, having been discovered through the online music store CDbaby.com, Circe was approached by an independent Japanese music firm which proposed with an exclusive distribution deal.

Following these successes Circe completed her first tour of Japan. Playing to sold out houses and signing autographs, she won the hearts of radio listeners in Tokyo, Osaka and Hiroshima and is selling records in over 40 stores throughout the country.

Circe’s unique musical vision has carried her into other areas of collaboration. She has established relationships with Los Angeles music supervisors and composers placing her songs and voice in national commercials, film and TV.

Circe was the “Homegrown” Program artist pick of September 2004 at the ever cool and iconic Amoeba Music in Hollywood. She has garnered numerous Awards from online music communities, radio programs and podcasts.

This homespun artist’s initiative has allowed her to create her own market and has attracted devoted fans that now span the globe. As her favorite quote by Benjamin Franklin says “The harder I work the luckier I get.”

Born in San Francisco and raised in Los Angeles
had never written a song before 2001, she had previously dedicated herself to the fine art of painting. But one morning she awoke with her first song “Three Bells” in her head. Later that day she wrote “Oh Lady” and finally cooking over her grandmothers cast iron skillet that night she wrote “Travelin’ Daddy” . Because many of her songs come to her in her dreams she is never at a lack for material, and like a sweater that just keeps unraveling the songs just keep coming. She is currently working on her fourth studio album and will release her first live record in 2006.

Compared to Alison Krauss, Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Patsy Cline, and Sarah Vaughn, Circe’s vocal range goes from smoky torch to white dove-pure, from bar room belter to bittersweet blue. Circe’s music evokes the classic style of traditional Country while traversing through an unusual land of Jazz chord progressions accompanied by the rich and often soulful melodies of the Blues.

Her collaboration with Producer Christian Nesmith on her last three records has managed to create a sound hinting at the spirit of Dan Hicks, Willie Dixon, Bob Wills, and Hank Williams.
Working with a myriad of A- List Los Angeles session players she has put together an outstanding accompaniment for her diverse forms of song writing - creating a sound that is both familiar and interesting, dynamic and intuitive that rarely disappoints a listener.

So, like a sparking train unstoppable she bullets down the track, like a slip of smoke she drifts above the night of ever black. Image and sound, laughter and tears Circe Link creates a world of music, a movie-scape of heart and song you will surely remember.

Bluebird Tattoo

Written By: Circe Link

BLUEBIRD TATTOO

Well it’s a Saturday night and there’s nothing to do
I’m gonna get myself a new tattoo
Ain’t no rose is gonna do
I’m gonna get myself a blue bird to remind me of you

He ain’t gonna go on my arm or my back
No this bird don’t fly with the rest of the pack
He’ll be no drinking Joe or Jack
And he won’t fly away and forget to come back

No he won’t fly away and leave his home
No he won’t fly away and leave his home
He’ll stay by my side

Blue blue bird fly

Well a weeks gone by
And I’m feeling fine
Yeah the sun came out and started to shine
I’m glad you’re gone, I don’t think I mind
Because my little blue birds got ‘em waitin’ in line

Now my dance card’s full since you went away
And this here bird just found out how to play
No he’s no drag he don’t bring me down
And so I shake my blue bird every night on the town

No he won’t fly away and leave his home
No he won’t fly away and leave his home
He’ll stay by my side

Blue
Blue blue bird
Blue blue bird fly

Let's Go Together

Written By: Circe Link

The days grow longer and the nights are worse
I’m oh so thread bare with an empty purse
Wicked on Monday
Woeful on Tuesday
Wasted on Wednesday
Could it get any worse?

I broke a mirror what more can I say?
It rains on my house each and very day
Bad luck has found me
Bent down on one knee
Busted and broken
There’s no hoping for me

So let’s go together and drink ourselves sick
Let’s face the stormy weather by taking a trip
It’s wonderful it’s wild on cyanide
Let’s fiddle with the breaks
And take a drive

So don’t say you won’t
Don’t say you might
I don’t care if it’s wrong
Cause when I’m with you it’s right

We might come back you know so make a toast
It could be fun to wind up as a ghost
Dreaming of dying no harm in trying
We could be dancing dressed in nothing but bones

So let’s go together and jump off a bridge
Let’s write a suicide letter and then slit our wrists
Lets walk along the freeways at night
Let’s open up the stove and snuff the light

So let’s go together, Baby let’s go
So let’s go together, Baby let’s go
So let’s go together, Baby let’s go

Falling on Knives

Written By: Circe Link Narccisiphus Music (BMI) Christian Nesmith Neztoons Publishing (BMI)

FALLING ON KNIVES

I’ve heard it said love is a dangerous playground
Covered in red tearing a dress is a sweet sound
But it was an accident seems that she fell
But stains on his hands have secrets to tell

Let it known, bad things will sometimes just happen
White as a bone blades pose as words while they’re flying
But it was an accident couldn’t you tell
And stains on his hands have secrets to tell

Falling on knives
Such are the lives
Of girls who love dangerous men
Cleanly run through for loving you
Looks like the prize I get
For doing my best
Is falling on your knife

You’d think she’s know it was laying about
Not very sharp for a genius
But quick to disclose you told her right out
Life with a butcher is dangerous

Blood covered lips given a kiss for the last time
Isn’t it rich? Smart girls are supposed to know better
And now that I’m dying right here on the floor
My sad little hope’s that you’ll love me so very much more

Falling on knives
Such are the lives
Of girls who love dangerous men
Cleanly run through for loving you
Looks like the prize I get
For doing my best
Is falling on your knife

I’ve heard it said love is a dangerous playground

Lost and Sinking

Written By: Circe Link Narccisiphus Music (BMI) Christian Nesmith Neztoons Publishing (BMI)

LOST AND SINKING

Down on Wall and Boyd where cardboard is king
People sleep on the streets they don’t have a thing
Except blues in the night and faces full of pain
Holes in their pockets and dreams down the drain

Underneath an old truck in a junkyard up north
Lives a little old man who thinks there’s a war
No more doctors and care no more taking his meds
The budget’s been cut now cement makes his bed

But the sun keeps on rising
And it just don’t seem fair
With a home full of hungry
And the cupboard far from bare

And I say Jesus,
We’ve hit some real bad luck
How many sons/souls you got to have to skip the next one?
And I say Good Lord, where did I lose that oar?
This little boat once made of faith is lost and sinking
This little boat once made of faith is lost and sinking, lost and sinking

Right on Camden and First where ya go to be seen
People smile in your face while behind you they scheme
They’ve got vaults full of pride and closets full of shame
They’ll climb up your back while they’re reaching for fame

But the sun keeps on rising
And it seems so surreal
Down the freeway we’re flying
With the devil at the wheel

And I say Jesus,
We’ve hit some real bad luck
How many sons/souls you got to have to skip the next one?
And I say Good Lord, where did I lose that oar?
This little boat once made of faith is lost and sinking
This little boat once made of faith is lost and sinking, lost and sinking

Went and Fell in Love

Written By: Circe Link - Narccisiphus Music (BMI)/ Christian Nesmith - Neztoons Publishing (BMI)

Ooo that funny feeling, oh my head is reeling
Ooo that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love
Ooo don’t say I show it, mmm I can’t control it
Oh that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love

A band of happy little blue birds chase me up and down the street
And every each stranger that I pass by smiles so big I see his teeth
The flowers stretch themselves in my way to tip their yellow caps
Why is the sky is full of sunshine, when it should be all black?

Ooo that funny feeling, oh my head is reeling
Ooo that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love

Looks like I went and fell in love
Oh lord I’d hoped to be above it
Looks like I went and fell in love
I thought I’d hit it, split it, be the first to quit it, lest I should get bit

Ooo that funny feeling, oh my heart is reeling
Ooo that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love

It seems that everywhere is playing a tango or a waltz
And when I look into his big eyes I never see the faults
I’m gonna find that bloody cupid and wring his little neck
Because his wicked little arrow has made my life a wreck

Ooo that funny feeling, oh my heart is reeling
Ooo that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love
Ooo don’t say I show it, mmm I can’t control it
Oh that funny feeling, looks like I went and fell in love
Looks like I went and fell in love

One Drop of Poison

Written By: Circe Link Narccisiphus Music (BMI) Christian Nesmith Neztoons Publishing (BMI)

One drop of poison every day is what you use
You’ve got me craving something you have
I get well on you
Each night I’m dying, so sick and blue
The antidote it lies in, your kiss so cruel

Who would suspect an angel like you?
They’d never guess
You’re feeding me that old devils food
I like it best
When I am higher, out of control
I’ll eat your fire, and pay with my soul

One drop of poison every day
Makes me so sick I’ll never stray
Oh but I would follow anywhere you go
But don’t tell me this is love, oh say it ain’t so

Because love is the root of evil
And love is the way the string you out
Stabbing my heart with a needle
Spilling my junkie blood on the ground

Each morning when I wake up to you
I could just die
Every small dose from your loving spoon
Tastes like a lie
And I know the terrible thing you do
But I don’t mind
Bad medicine is a little like truth
And I like mine

One drop of poison every day
Makes me so sick I’d never stray
Oh but I would follow anywhere you go
But don’t tell me this is love, oh say it ain’t so
But don’t tell me this is love, oh say it ain’t so
But don’t tell me this is love, oh say it ain’t so
