City Torn (Single) - released 15 December 2009

Feeling a bit camera shy

ity Torn originally formed in December 2008 after two brothers, Ed (drums) and Ollie (guitar) started jamming on Christmas Day 2008 creating the basics of Breathe (I Cannot) in a small room to try and fight off a hangover (note: loud noise + hangover = bad times)

After a quick roster change, Terry (Bass) joined the band bringing a slightly warped sense of humour and renewed strength in the hunt for band members! in February 09, the band stumbled across Kristy (Vocals) when looking for a male vocalist. She came into an audition and, although noteably nervous, within a few notes her voice blew them away destroying the concept of a growly male singer fronting the band.

City Torn got busy writing and rehearsing until unfortunately in June 2009 their rhythm guitarist, Heidi, had to leave to follow the path of education, leaving the band looking for a replacement. After lining up two close auditions they settled on Luke (guitar) mainly due to his exuberance and his moustache - every good band needs someone with a moustache!

In the meantime, City Torn were shown a concept drawing by Zahir which created the basis of our logo - after a few gigs and seeing some homemade fan t shirts, City Torn realised the logo clearly said both City Torn and Gay Porn - Needless to say, after a laugh, the logo changed a bit. (definition of ultimate fan dedication: wearing a t shirt that reads Gay Porn to support a band!)

Their first gig was at the Railway Inn in Wincester in August 2009. Walking in and introducing themselves, City Torn soon realised they had outsold the other bands. (Some of them had been playing for years in comparison to City Torn's 2 months together!) Walking onstage as the first warmup act, City Torn blew away the crowd with contagious energy and infectious riffs, leaving the following acts a hard task! As a side note - Thanks for the random comments like 'I see you shower' from a member of the audience!

From the buzz of the first gig, City Torn played the Joiners Arms, Southampton in September 2009, again showing what they're made of, leading to another booking as main support - 3 months from completing the band to main support in November!

City Torn had found they had reached a point where they needed to get some high quality recordings to represent the band offstage. After looking at a few local studios, the band booked into Earth Terminal studios in Odiham to record the self-titled debut release featuring Breathe (I Cannot) and Fading alongside the single Make Me which was released on 12 April 2010.

Every member of the band has had a wide ranging experience with music from Terry's brass playing through to Kristy's opera, Ollie's bands, Ed's bass-playing/songwriting and Luke's spanish guitar. All this variety helped turn Ed and Ollie's ineffective hangover remedy into the hard hitting City Torn.

City Torn have been going from strength to strength and show no sign of slowing down. Have a listen, go see them live and most importantly (and most cliched...) enjoy!
