"EP Release Preview"

Local group City Voices is throwing an EP release party at the Norva this Friday with a number of other local acts and it looks to be one of the greatest local original music shows I’ve seen in years. Six acts from Hampton Roads and Richmond playing home-spun rock? Amazing.

The City Voices quartet seems very driven and almost makes it look too easy, having just formed the band over the past year or so and throwing together their EP in a few months, even finding time to shoot a video. Now they’re headlining the Norva and have managed to bring a handful of their friends with them? Color me impressed, or jealous. Take your pick. Smooth vocals from singer Suzanne Smith and solid playing from guitarist John Davis, bassist TJ Mckinney and drummer Jarrett Stanley. These guys got it good, and this show should be a good milestone in their careers. - epichoney.com

"NorVa Review"

A local band, City Voices, kicked off the show. A friend of the band told me that they had actually won this opportunity to play with Angels & Airwaves. A “Battle of the Bands” was held to select the opening band, and City Voices was the winner. Their music is strong and bass heavy; the lead singer, Suzanne Smith, has a powerful voice. And I’d definitely like to see them again. - altdaily.com

Bio

In the summer of 2008, good friends Jarrett Stanley, TJ Mckinney, and John Davis formed a band. Having interacted musically for many years prior, as well as building friendships, the collaboration seemed all too logical. They worked on their music, sans vocals, for the remainder of 2008 before searching for a serious singer and songwriter. The addition of singer Suzanne Smith and guitarist Jesse McDaries was made and the band commenced rehearsals and songwriting at the start of 2009.

We've drawn influences from many bands, but mostly, we draw inspiration from life occurrences and relationships. For as long as we've been a band, we've been pouring everything into our music. That's our story so far and it's continually still being written.
