Civilized Tears

Civilized Tears

BandAlternativeRock

A way to turn the chaos of life into something beautiful.

Biography

"I don't want to fuel fires with my opinions or verdicts. I have tried to piece together an understanding of how and why, but the answers fade as quickly as they come and if I fall into the abyss of fear I will be of no use to this world so the best I can do is remain optimistic that we can evolve from this struggle and realize that in this journey we are all one."
Tim Bennett of Civilized Tears

Having lived in Tokyo, Brazil, New York, LA, Miami, Milan, London, Paris and Seattle, Tim Bennett of Civilized Tears is no stranger to the beauty that the world can offer. He is also no stranger to the how ugly it can be.

Bennett worked painstakingly hard, doing every job conceivable in order to survive and feed his passion for music and lyrics. After painting houses, acting in commercials, posing nude for worldwide publications, cleaning toilets, canvassing for political organizations, playing in the New York subways, being a courier, being arrested for spying, being a waiter, a bartender, a cook and a gardener, working in clothes stores, selling paintings, selling blood and having to be protected by the Mafia, Tim Bennett maintains that he has never sold his soul!

He has had lunch with Mussolini's grand daughter, been stood up by Phil Spector, been abducted by an Italian Countess, been invited to marry into General Franco's family, been stranded on a desert island, survived two major earthquakes, been the first white man to meet the Sultan of Brunei's witch doctor and has driven through the streets of L.A. under police escort.

Tim has lived on the emotional fringes of life, composing songs that write themselves out of the true experiences that he has had and it is this that makes him so unique and original as an artist.

Lyrics

Blue Sunrise

Written By: Tim Bennett Smith

VERSE 1
BROTHER DO YOU FEEL ALL RIGHT DO YOU FEEL OK?
I HEAR YOUR VOICE STRAINED ACROSS THE AIRWAVES
YOU MADE A RESERVATION WITH YOUR PAST
YOU TURNED ABOUT FACE AND WATCHED YOUR LIFE CRASH!
PRE-CHORUS
BUT THE MAGIC'S HERE AFTER ALL
AND THE FEELING IS MUTUAL

CHORUS
COS THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR
THE SKY IS BLUE AND ALL IS CLEAR
WE'RE HIGH UP IN THE ATMOSPHERE
THE AIR IS THIN AND MORE SINCERE

VERSE 2
BROTHER DO YOU FEEL ALL RIGHT OR HAVE YOU LOST YOUR WAY
ARE YOU SEEING CLEARLY THROUGH THE LONDON RAIN?
YOU'VE BEEN ASLEEP TRYING TO DREAM YOUR WAY BACK TO LIFE
DID YOU WAKE IN TIME TO WATCH THE SUNRISE?

POST CHORUS
WE'LL BUILD A ROAD RIGHT THROUGH THE SUN

VERSE 3
TELL ME NOW YOU'RE OLDER DO YOU FEEL WISE?
YOU OVERCAME THE DEMONS OF YOUR MOTHER'S LIES
AND I REMEMBER YOU STRUGGLE FOR YOUR LIFE
HOLDING ONTO ME HANGING OFF THE HIGH RISE!

Flying Over America

Written By: Tim Bennett Smith

FLYING OVER AMERICA
LOOKING DOWN FROM THE AEROPLANE
I CAN SEE THROUGH THE CLOUDS UP HERE
NOW THE SHADOWS ARE OUT OF RANGE

SAYING IT'S ALL RIGHT , IT'S OKAY
IF I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH TODAY

CHORUS
AND I DON'T WANT TO BE A VICTIM ANYMORE
I JUST WANT TO KEEP MY FEET FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE FLOOR
I DON'T WANT TO BE A PUPPET IN THEIR SCHEMES
COS I'M JUST SITTING HERE TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT EVERYBODY MEANS

I'VE MADE MISTAKES AND PAID THE PRICE
BENT THE RULES AND ROLLED THE DICE
AND I'VE HAD FRIENDS AND I'VE HAD FOE
BUT NOW IT'S TIME TO LET THEM GO

SAYING IT'S ALL RIGHT , IT'S OKAY
IF WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH TODAY

ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AS LIFE GOES RUNNING BY
RUNNING UP AND DOWN AND INSIDE OUT THE TRACKS OF MY MIND'S EYE
FACING THE WORST AND WASTING THE BEST IN LIFE WE SOON FORGET TO SMILE
BUT DON'T FORGET TO LIVE BEFORE YOU LIVE BEFORE YOU DIE A WHILE.

Black Rain

Written By: Tim A Bennett Smith

Riding round downtown
With my eyes closed I hear the sounds
Of the sirens and the radio
Fighting through the red lights
Through the blackened rain that soaks
The night, it's America and I'm alive

And I believe it like I need it
I need it more than I've ever needed
To make it happen
To make it happen

I need somebody to kill this pain
I need somebody to share the blame
I need somebody to keep me sane
And save my soul

In the rear view mirror
There's a man who's living in on the edge
And I see the fire burning in his eyes
'Cause he believes it like he breathes it
Needs it more than he's ever needed
To watch it happen
To watch it happen

I need somebody to kill this pain
I need somebody to share the blame
I need somebody to keep me sane
And save my soul
